How Holi acts as the CATALYST in Bollywood love stories

Drenched clothes, colourful scenery, foot-tapping background score, and hero-heroine spraying each other with 'gulaal'. Sounds familiar? Yes, it's a scene right out of a Bollywood movie where the festival of colours, Holi, acts as the catalyst in love stories... Wondering how that happens? Read on:

Dripping-Wet Clothes:

It's the perfect time to up the oomph factor in the movie by bringing a skimpily clad heroine who's dripping-wet. The hero not only falls head over heels with the heroine, but also proves his dancing, singing and 'patao-ing' abilities to everybody. If the hero's sculpted abs and heroine's sexy mid-riff in the Holi scene doesn't make the movie spicier, then nothing else can be done to save this drowning ship. If you're planning to play Holi filmy-style this season, grab hold of a white chiffon sari and a low-cut blouse and dance around, hoping to run into your Mr Right!

The 'Gulaal' Effect:

If the lead pair is going through a massive fight, the only way their hatred will turn into love is during the celebration of Holi. When the actor applies Gulaal on his heroine, her hair swishes past her face, her eyes light up, music starts playing in the background, their eyes meet and love happens. Aww...except that we have seen this a number of times on the big screen and we are quite tired of this scenario. We understand that red is the universal colour of love, but making it the ONLY colour to push your story ahead is a bit too much. Don't you feel?

Bhaang Masti:

What happens when the goody-goody heroine downs glasses after glasses of bhaang? She becomes intoxicated beyond her limits and falls right into the arms of the dashing hero. Who, of course, doesn't take advantage of the situation and helps her stay in control. Amid shy banters and massive hangovers, the two bond and eventually fall deeply in love. Without bhaang, the chilled drink made of cannabis leaves and buds, there's no masti in a movie. Holi is one of the popular festivals where this potion, consumed as a drink, pills or powder, is used for celebrations! Why wouldn't makers tap into this potential, eh?

Saving the Damsel in Distress:

The bhaang-induced, wet-clothed heroine is being abused by a bunch of rowdy revellers. They all tease her, forcefully apply colours on her and scream, 'Holi hai!' while the distressed damsel is left in tears. If this typical scenario doesn't make your nostalgic, you haven't watched as many Bollywood movies as us. When she is contemplating a drastic step, comes her knight in shining armour, who not only puts the rogues in their places, but also wins the maiden's heart. Thus, begins an epic love story, all thanks to Holi!

Sizzling Lip-Locks and Romance:

It's the perfect time to let go of your inhibitions and indulge in playful masti and fun. While Ram and Leela locked their lips seductively in the epic romance Goliyon Ki Raasleela-Ram-Leela, Arjun and Sonakshi realised their feelings for each other while applying 'rang' on each other. But it's the rumoured couple of Akshay and Priyanka who set the scene on fire with their sensuous moves in the Holi song 'Do me a favour let's play Holi' from Waqt.
