Eminent writer and social activist Mahasweta Devi passed away at the age of 90.
The writer-activist, who worked for the welfare of tribals in different parts of India, breathed her last today (Thursday) at a Kolkata hospital.
The Sahitya Akademi, Jnanpith and Magsaysay awardee was admitted with age-related ailments. Her condition was deteriorating owing to kidney disorder and blood infection.
A doctor told to a daily, “She passed away at 3.16 pm following a cardiac arrest and multi-organ failure”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief on twitter-
