Ranbir Kapoor is already a superstar - Arjun Kapoor

Showering high praise on Ranbir Kapoor, actor Arjun Kapoor today called him a superstar of the current generation. The actor was speaking at a session in FICCI debating on young stars and new wave in Hindi cinema.

"Ranbir Kapoor is the superstar of our generation. He has been around longer than us but the kind of films that he has done, his choice of cinema has made him a superstar. He is way ahead of all us by leaps and bounds," said Arjun.

Arjun who was addressing a public conference for the first time after his controversial stint with AIB roast made a light remark of experiencing a sense of deja vu at seeing the audience, a podium and Rajeev Masand who was moderating the session. Commenting on the new wave cinema that has swept Bollywood with offbeat subjects finding acceptance, Arjun said that viewers too have evolved. "In 2001, when Hrithik Roshan made his debut with a commercial film, it became a superhit because at that time audience were aspirational. Today they have evolved with time and are more accepting."

Arjun also agreed that a film like Finding Fanny may find acceptance in cosmopolitan cities but not necessarily in the heartlands of rural states like Bihar. He lauded actress Anushka Sharma for taking the risk in making a movie like NH10. "Anushka does a PK so that somewhere down the line she can do a film like NH10. I almost shut my eye in the final scene. It was that real. So kudos to her for making such a film. Also a Varun couldn't have done a Badlapur if he hadn't done a Main Tera Hero or Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya."

Arjun also expressed his happiness at the evolution of the star system in our country where brilliant actors like Rajkummar Rao and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are seen as stars today.

While there is definitely a new wave in Indian cinema, Arjun agreed that superstars will always have their large audience. "A single screen audience will only and only step out for the three Khans and not really for anyone else."

As far as remakes go, while there is no one film that Arjun would want to be a part of, the young actor said he wouldn't mind doing any of the roles essayed by his illustrious uncle, Anil Kapoor and Mr. India is one movie that he may well want to be part of if ever remade.
