Our work requires us to be more mentally than physically active: Executive Producer Subhash Chandra Jha

Executive Producer Subhash Chandra Jha
Currently serving as an Executive Producer (EP) for Ravi Ojha Productions, Subhash Chandra Jha initially strived hard to become a director but with no result. Hoping that someday he might achieve his dream, the hardworking man does his best to strike a balance by coordinating with various departments in the production house. The Mumbai lad Subhash loves his work in Gustakh Dil and knows how to please his actors and get them working. For him managing people’s anger and pampering their egos is a piece of cake. In an interview with Tellychakkar.com, Subhash talks about his journey in life, his work and more. Tell us how you started off your journey in this industry? Well, born and brought up in Mumbai, I was an Arts student and wanted to pursue direction. So when I started off in this industry searching for a job to pursue direction, I faced rejection from many places. It was only then that I had to opt entering into the production team of Balaji Telefilms in 2008 when I did Kasturi. Post that, I worked for BAG Films and a few more places for two and a half months but then quit. I later got associated with Ravi Ojha Productions and till date I have completed supervising two of their shows namely Sasural Genda Phool and Badalte Rishton Ki Dastaan. I am currently working here in the capacity of an EP for Gustakh Dil. What does your profile demand and what all you have to do as an EP? In my current capacity, I have to co-ordinate with the artistes, production people and the scheduler for dates and also with the channel. My job requires a lot of overlooking into meeting the requirements of every department. What are your duty hours like? We work on a 12-hour shift. For Gustakh Dil we shoot from 9 in the morning to 9 pm. How is it to handle the tantrums that actors throw on the sets or getting things done the way they want? Having worked earlier in a call center in the banking department the job required me to handle the egos of thousands of complaining and frustrated people who used to call there. So, for me to handle egos of ten people seems like a piece of cake. Being an EP you seem to have too much of work pressure. What keeps you going? Over here, our work requires us to be more of a mentally active person than one physically. I am interested in what I do and am good at that. Additionally, I prefer doing something or the other and earn money rather than just sitting at home; that is the only motivating factor. If not an EP what would you have chosen to be? Like I mentioned earlier, if not an EP, I would have been a director. But if you ask me if not a director then… I would be doing nothing. Any advice to new aspirants in this industry? Yes, if you want to do a lot of work, do not want to enjoy social life and are suffering from unhappiness and frustration, please come and be a part of us. It will help you keep busy, so much so that even when you want to rest at home, you would be thinking of the schedules, shoots, the dates and meeting the necessary deadlines.
