TV actors bid goodbye to Orkut

TV actors bid goodbye to Orkut
A decade back, Google brought an interesting platform ‘Orkut’ to get the world together. Cited as the first popular social networking site, Orkut not only helped friends stay connected, but also was a great opportunity to date and fall in love. With features like scraps, testimonials, games and thousand of communities where one could find people of their kind, Orkut instantly got youngsters hooked to it. Today (30 September) Google shut down this site making TV celebs go all nostalgic remembering about their time on Orkut. Read on to find out their experience of Orkut and how they will miss it. Zaan Khan: I am a little shocked to know about Orkut shutting down. I remember I was completely addicted to Orkut. My mom use to scold me for being hooked to it and I used to go to café to access it. I still remember the features of scraps and testimonials. It will always be very special to me as I had made some wonderful friends on Orkut and interestingly some are still in contact. Aneri Vajani: I have a lot of memories attached to Orkut. I met a lot of people on Orkut who went on to become best friends but then lost contact. So similar to them, Orkut too is leaving us today. It’s really a nostalgic moment for me. Aamir Dalvi: It’s really sad to know about it. I had an account long back and was quite active on it but then shifted to Facebook. When Orkut launched it was a great medium to connect with people and also professional networking. One could post pictures, views and thoughts in its various communities. It was a site that popularized social networking in India. Aishwarya Sakhuja: Orkut being the first social networking site, I remember being super excited about joining it. My favourite feature used to be the testimonials where people would write heartfelt things about each other. With Orkut shutting down a lot of my old pictures shall go away with it. I am upset as am unavailable to access it anymore for I have forgotten my username and password. Karan Sharma: My first social networking site was on Orkut only and that makes me sad that it will no longer be active. Although most people are now active on Facebook and Twitter, we all got connected with most friends on Orkut. The site was special as it was the first to bring people close in the virtual world. Roopal Tyagi: It was the first social networking site and thus it was very special. I saw a video online about people checking their profiles one last time and so I did the same. The scraps and testimonials made me remember my school days. I sincerely wish the team comes up with something again that would take on the world very soon. Aanshul Trivedi: Well in those days, there was a site called Hi5 and then Orkut came and now it’s Facebook. Although so many social networking sites are there, the excitement and fun to connect with people won’t happen anymore. That way Orkut remains special. And of course I remember its feature Testimonials where people could write about you; actually praise you (winks). Fernaz Shetty: I was never active on any social networking sites like Orkut as stories of cyber crimes scared me. But now that I am part of the media industry I have an account on Facebook and Twitter. It’s under the name @thefernazshetty. I would request my fans to follow this genuine profile only. Rest it’s good to connect, but always be careful. Harssh Rajput: Well it’s sad to know that it is the last day of Orkut. I actually went on the site and felt quite nostalgic. A bundle of memories flashed when I logged in there. Good bye Orkut. I am sad that no will scrap me now. Parakh Madan: Orkut was one of the first social networking sites and I remember when it had launched I was completely addicted to it. I had just moved to college from school and it really helped me keep in touch with my school friends. Thank you Google for giving us Orkut! So here’s a final goodbye to Orkut!! Will you miss Orkut?
