You may have seen him in shows like Avinash IPS, Chandramukhi, Saat Phere and Salaam Zindagi, but he has scaled new heights of popularity through his portrayal of Dr Vikram Saxena in Zee's Aapki Antara. And Sachin Khurana is enjoying every bit of his success in the show that is vastly different from the others. He spoke to TellyChakkar for a while before getting on with the shooting of the show.

On the success of Aap Ki Antara...
Frankly, I am delighted with the way Aapki Antara is doing and the manner in which it has been accepted by the audience in this short span. The show has created a niche of its own.
On how he got the role of Dr Vikram...
It was actually a big surprise for me. My friend and I went for the auditions together, when we heard that the production house was looking for an actor to play the role of Dr Vikram. I got selected. Just that the channel and the producer liked me more then my friend for the role. This, in no way, means that he is any less an actor than me.
On the homework he had to do to play this role...
Before I stepped into the shoes of Dr Vikram, I had to study a lot. I read up a lot on the Internet and also watched a lot of videos on You Tube related to this topic. I also met and interacted with a number of autistic children to understand their point of view and watch their mannerisms. But,as you will agree, acting is a continuous learning process. I am learning and trying to improve every day.
On his colleagues in Aap Ki Antara
Working with little Zynah is an experience I will never forget. She is very bright and has a fantastic future in store for her. In addition, both the leads, Darshan and Prabhleen are very good and focused on the roles. The cast has played a big role in the success of this show.
On rumours that the TRP of the show has declined in the last few weeks and there is going to be a leap in the story...
That is not true at all. There is no such declining trend. At the same time, you also have to understand that a daily soap cannot have the same TRP every week! However, the show in going to have a leap in the coming months. But,let me clarify it is not because of the TRPs. It will be a logical leap and except Antara, all other actors will be same and so will be the theme of the show. Autism cannot be fully cured so even after Antara grows up, she will continue to be autistic.
On working with a new production house.
Drishant Productions are a new production house but very professional in the way they work. Not just me, but all actors associated with this show are very happy. As a result, the excellent team work is evident on screen.Everyone puts in their best to ensure that the serial is a success. It is extremely commendable for them to take the risk of coming up with such a different serial, despite this being their first venture.
On his future plans...
I have been around for 14 years now and have never run after money. For me,the role has always achieved more importance than anything else. If I ran after money, perhaps, I would have been much better off. But as I said that is not important. I will continue following this philosophy. I want people to know me by my characters and not as Sachin Khurana.
I am doing a film titled Tum Mile which is about the floods (26/7) in Mumbai a few years back. Soha Ali Khan and Imraan Hashmi are also there in this film.
