Indian television is unique. It has archetypal features which you will never see anywhere else in the world. Hence, we asked eminent personalities from the TV industry to share about the 8 things which the TV industry simply can’t do without. This is what they said.

Pratyusha Banerjee

Indian television simply can’t do without the heroines they have, drama, shows being a bit unreal, saas bahu, jewellery, dressing up, six to seven marriages with the same person, without me (Pratyusha Banerjee) and of course you guys, Tellychakkar.com.

Eight traits of Indian television are: good looking faces (pretty faces and good looking guys), good actors, makeup (be it light or heavy), great hairdressers (on TV, characters can’t keep their hair as it is in real life and at times have to wear wigs too), glycerin, good directors and creatives without which the show will be spoiled, good DOPs who make actors look better than they really are and last but not the least alluring promos.

Chandni Bhagwanani

Eight things which are a part and parcel of Indian television are: vamp, love stories, mirch masala, saas bahu, festivals, marriages, heavy clothes and melodrama.

Samir Soni

Indian television doesn’t want to discard the following: drama, saas bahu, glycerin, slokas in Sanskrit, sarees and sherwanis, cheap wigs (thick white hair wigs), loudness (be it loud makeup, music or clothes) and the full 360 degrees moon.

Rithvik Dhanjani

First and foremost, Indian television just cannot do without Ekta Kapoor. The other features that are an intrinsic part of India’s small screen are high intense dramatic scenes, focus on the ladies of the family especially the saas and bahu, dramatic backdrop music from films, dancing, reality TV fights, CID and heavy makeup even while the characters are sleeping or eating.

Dushyant Wagh

Eight archetypal features of Indian television are: glycerin, a lot of drama, a romantic moment accompanied with a beautiful song, a sati savitri character, a vamp, a hero with the physique of a body builder, plenty of camera panning and a proper freeze point on any of the leads (80% of the time this is exactly what happens at the end of the episodes)

Producer Asit Modi

The features which are intrinsic to Indian television are saas bahu, comedy, suspense, comedies (adult comedies are aired after 11pm), soaps based on classic novels, mythological/ history shows, social daily soaps and anchor based shows.

Producer Shyamasis Bhattacharya

Eight staples of Indian television are the sanskari bahu, the fixation for film stars, TRP mania, prime time soaps (because of our weak memory we can’t relate to weekly drama), fictionalisation of news, scripted drama point in reality shows, infinite number of award shows and at least three number one channels.

Pratyusha first get ur attitude right.. first learn abt urself wat u r missing and den comment on wat the tv wants.. the tv industry certainly doesnt want such unprofessional and over the top attitudes of the actors.. learn to be humble and appreciate wat u get in life.. and never betray people's feelings, emotions and trust .. always remember wat goes around always comes arnd.. today u r breaking people's hearts one day u will be heart broken wid no one arnd u..and dts karma and is bound to happen..

I think pratyusha is right because that's what Indian shows have including SaaS bahu crap. I also want to include that the vamps in SaaS bahu shows are third class and cheap.Hero or heroines are lame in their acting skills.
