Savita Prabhune: You are only known for your work, so the role is paramount for me

It is always the story and character that have mattered to actress Savita Prabhune. She is a part of Sonali and Amir Jaffar’s Tujhse Hai Raabta and has been a part of theatre, TV, and films. She says that she only looks at her role and the plot of the story. ‘I have done theatre and I am doing TV and films now. It’s just that the story and the character should be good. My role is paramount for me. Basically, you are only known for your work, so your character has to be good. The environment becomes homely when you are working for TV because we are together for years,’ says Savita, who has been seen in shows such as Kusum, Pavitra Rishta, Saaya, and Koshish Ek Aasha.

Ask her which medium she likes the most, and she says, ‘I feel that theatre is very interesting, as I get to see the audience and their reactions as well. Every medium has its own importance. In daily soaps, we reach everyone's place through that particular medium, and in films, people remember us for a long time. All three have a different impact on the audience. I really enjoy each and every medium.’

Talking about her character in the show, she says, ‘My character in Tujhse Hai Raabta is very different, as I have always played positive roles before. The role that I am doing is of Ahilya. She is a mother and a grandmother, and she is the only one who dominates the entire family. No one is allowed to speak in front of her. I have a dialogue in the show that is called “Poornaviraam.” It just means I am done with everything and I don't want to hear anything after it. She feels that she has been doing everything for the house for so many years, so whatever she says, only that will happen. Kalyani is the only one who challenges me in a very sweet and a soft way. That's the reason why I love the relationship between Ahilya and Kalyani.’

In fact, Savita shares a great relationship with actor Reem Shaikh, who plays the role of Kalyani in the show. ‘We have a beautiful relationship off-screen as well. We have lots of fun and even have our food together. If anything new happens with her, I am the first one she tells. She is really very hard working, her focus is only on her work,’ she says.

The actor loves working with Sonali and Amir Jaffar as well. ‘I am so happy that I am working with Sonali, as she has given so many hit TV serials. I will say that it is her writing that works for the serial. I am never worried about the story because we have her,’ she says.
