Monaz Mevawala is kicked about her new Colors show, Durga where she essays the main negative lead of Mata Danu. “My Paatal Lok based character is a witch who can do black magic, read people’s minds, see the future and can indulge in all kinds of bad activities. There is basically nobody as wicked as her. As you would know, the show is based on the efforts of the people residing in Paatal Lok wishing to conquer Swarg Lok where Durga Maa stays, and about the problems this ‘Good V/s Bad’ battle entails,” Monaz explains.

Monaz who has been around for many years on television says, “I regard this Sagar Arts mythological as a path-breaking attempt. I have always played sweet, bubbly and chirpy girl roles (Meet Mila De Rabba and Rakhi – Ek Atoot Rishte JKi Dor), and in real life too, I am the same. Hence there was an urge in me to play an evil looking witch, full of make-up which is a challenge. Sometimes I actually get scared seeing my onscreen pictures (smiles).”
On the manner in which she got the role, Monaz tells us, “I got a call from Sagar Arts as they wanted a girl who has curly hair just as the scriptures describe Mata Danu’s look. Initially, I refused to take up a mythological. Also, I did not want to shoot in Sagar City in Vadodara, Gujarat. But they convinced me that it is a new age mytho like Mahadev where they do not have the normal elements which are loud. That is when I decided to give it a try. I accept the fact that Gujarat is far, but the role too was equally good. I did not want to let go a role like this as it is a challenge for me as an actress. Working as a negative lead on a bigger channel is also one more feather in my cap.”
Now that Monaz has got into the skin of the character, she is seeing to it that she does full justice to the role. “I am putting my heart and soul into this character, speaking in classical Hindi, rolling my eyes to give the right expression.”
Apart from Durga, Monaz is continuing with her Sahara One show Jhilmil Sitaaron Ka Aangan Hoga. “It does get tedious as I always need to be juggling between both the shows. However, I am getting used to the schedule now.”
According to Monaz, television should come out of the saas-bahu zone and attempt other genres like mytho which provide moral values apart from entertainment. “This is the need of the hour in the wake of increasing incidents of crime against women,” says the actor.
Monaz who has recently added some hot pictures on her Facebook profile states, “I have deliberately done it, so that the public does not think that Danu’s look is my real avatar. I want the world to see the real cute and sexy Monaz.”
