I am the hero of Amma and my character will never get sidelined: Shahwar Ali

The oft-used adjective ‘handsome’ does no justice to superbly chiselled hot personality, Shahwar Ali. After participating in the reality show Power Couple, Shahwar made his fiction debut on small screen with Zee TV’s weekly drama Amma (Salt Media). Shahwar has been seen playing the role of lawyer Parvez who is in love with Zeenat played by lead actress Urvashi Sharma. In a chat with Tellychakkar, Shahwar spoke about Amma, his journey, reality shows and more. What attracted you to make fiction debut with Amma? Firstly, it’s not a daily soap and the story is from the late 1940s. I like to watch old cinema and always had a wish to be part of such kind of content. So I think Amma is the best show to make small screen debut. People have always seen me in grey shaded role so this time I wanted viewers to watch me in a positive character. I did not take a second thought to give a nod to this show. How much are you enjoying shooting for Amma? I love the atmosphere of Ramoji, Hyderabad. You are more focused on your work as you are away from Mumbai’s busy life. We eat healthy and live routine life. I miss my wife a lot but I enjoy shooting here as well. Why fiction at this point of time in career? Why not? It is the right time and right show to be part of. Although I have been offered a lot of fiction shows but either I was busy doing films or things didn’t work out. After being part of Power Couple, I have realized that TV has wider reach. As Amma has an ensemble cast, did you ever feel that your character might get sidelined? I am the hero of the show. My character is very important so there is no question of getting sidelined. What kind of homework you did to prepare for the role of Parvez? As my look is retro, I watched lot of old movies and their looks. Parvez is very classy and educated so I don’t face any kind of problems to enact this role. Can viewers watch any intimate scenes in Amma? Amma’s script doesn’t demand any kind of intimate scenes. If makers ask for the same, I won’t be comfortable doing it. How do you see your journey in the industry? I never thought that I will shift to Mumbai and become a model and actor. Even my parents were little sceptical to send me to a metro city. 20 years back I used to work in a Bhopal based hotel and there I met Rahul Dev and Arjun Rampal. Looking at my fit physical appearance, they asked me about my profession. And when I answered, they convinced me to start doing fashion shows. So, big thanks to them as because of them today I am part of this industry. You are a happily married man, any plans to become father anytime soon? Mostly by next year. After Power Couple what kind of reality shows you wish to be part of? I wish to be part of shows like Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss.
