I don't want to be stereotyped as a parallel lead: Avinesh Rekhi

Avinesh Rekhi
“I am not a complicated person. I am straight-forward and bold”, said the handsome hunk Avinesh Rekhi who enthralled the audience with his performance in Colors’ Chhal: Sheh aur maat, Madhubala and is currently seen as Neeraj on Sony TV’s Main Naa Bhoolungi. Defining his character in the popular serial (Main Naa) he stated, “Neeraj has never been who he really is. His character has a lot of layers which will keep unfolding through the course of the show. He acts according to what the situation demands.” He got a little chatty and even spoke about his lady-love, “Well, I met my wife long before I joined the industry and we dated for a very long time. She has always been extremely supportive and has stood by me through thick and thin. She is beautiful and is my strongest pillar of support. I respect her a lot.” Does he miss his Madhubala days? Well, here’s what he said. “It was my character of Sultan in Madhubala that helped me attain recognition in the television Industry. Sultan was a very strong character and is by far the best character I enjoyed playing. Chhal marked my debut in the industry but Madhubala was my first major success.” Mostly seen as a parallel lead in many of his television soaps, he shed some light on our query. “Why would someone opt to play the parallel lead? I guess it was destiny that I portrayed parallel leads in my other shows. See there are a lot of things like the availability of work, financial crisis etc that makes an actor opt for a role. But I definitely don’t want to be stereotyped as a “parallel-lead”. I am not going to sign any parallel leads henceforth and I am looking forward for a good lead role”, said a determined Avinesh. Not many know that the dashing actor is also an IT graduate! “I always wanted to be an actor. But I also wanted to make sure that I had a backup plan ready. So I decided to complete my studies first and graduated in IT. I even worked for sometime but then I chose to follow my dream when I got an opportunity,” he went on to say. Any Bollywood dreams? “Every actor wants to make it big. But once you enter the industry you come to terms with harsh realities. Television and Bollywood are two very different industries. My aim was never to become a TV or Bollywood or Hollywood star. I just wanted to be on screen and do good work. And I believe if any actor wants to make it big anywhere, he just needs to believe in himself.” Describing his dream role and his rapport with his co-actors, he said, “It has to be something challenging, convincing and different. And you should ask my co-actors that. I am always good to everyone. I don’t throw tantrums and I am really calm. So I share a good rapport with all of them.” As he signs off he shared with us his mantra for a successful life, “Just believe in yourself. Have faith. Set your goal and work tirelessly and dedicatedly towards achieving it. You can become anything you want to be.” Wish you luck, Avinesh!!
