Newcomer Anjali Tatrari finds a father figure in Varun Badola

Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, Sony Entertainment Television’s upcoming show is not just clutter breaking but promises to bring forth an unconventional story. Set against the backdrop of Delhi, the show will see well-known actors Varun Badola and Shweta Tiwari come together for the very first time along with newcomer Anjali Tatrari (Amber) in the lead roles. While Varun Badola will be essaying the role of a single parent who shares a unique bond with his daughter Anjali (Niya), how Shweta (Guneet) will fit into their equation remains to be seen.

It is said that daughters share a unique bond with their fathers, but not everyone is that lucky to have experienced it. Anjali Tatrari had gone through one such sad incident in life but has now found her father figure in Varun Badola. Anjali Tatrari who is making her mark in trending music videos, web series and ad films will be making her television debut with this show. She lost her father at the tender age of 4 and hadn’t got a chance to understand a father-daughter relationship. But both the actors – Varun and Anjali seem to be very fond of each other so much so that the on-lookers think of them as real father-daughter.

Anjali shares, “When I got selected for the role and sat through the narration, I felt very nervous. I couldn’t understand the depth of the father-daughter bond, since my father passed away when I was very young. I was facing issues in understanding the character’s reaction towards her father because I haven’t experienced it myself. But honestly speaking, Varun sir made it a lot easier for me. I respect him a lot and I look up to him as a father figure. What he helped me realize is that a father does not have ‘definition’. There are no rules. He can be a friend, a confidante, a disciplinarian, or anything else depending on how comfortable one is. This helped me loosen up a bit. My reactions now are a lot more real and I feel blessed to have a senior co-actor who is more like a friend and father figure to me.”

Expressing his thoughts on Anjali’s predicament Varun said, “What I like about Anjali is her passion towards taking up new things and doing full justice to it. She wasn’t hesitant in tabling the fact that she doesn’t understand the father-daughter bond well, but she wanted to learn. When I heard about the loss of her father, things instantly fell in place. So as an ice breaker I chatted with her about all things other than work to build trust and understanding between us. Once she started opening up, she realized that probably this is how her relationship with her father would have been, if he were around. Now most of our scenes are not even rehearsed. It’s easy to maneuver through actions and reactions. I am happy to have made her comfortable because that’s how our on-screen relationship is. Both Amber and Niya don’t share a typical father-daughter relationship. They fight like teenagers over mundane matters but are overtly protective and dependent on each other.”
