You fall in love unexpectedly - Sukirti Kandpal

Sukirti Kandpal
‘I love you’. Who do you expect to speak these three magical words in a man-woman relationship for the very first time? Obviously, the man. As the famous Bob Dylan song goes, ‘the times they are a changing (sic)’. In Life OK’s Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai... Ajab Sa Risk Hai, Rajveer (Gaurav Bajaj) didn’t go down on his knees with a rose in hand and propose to Simran (Sukirti Kandpal) like a gallant knight. Simran, who is a modern Singaporean girl of Indian origin came up to him instead and without mincing any words told him, “I love you.” A total baffled Rajveer later told her that they could only be friends but never lovers. We asked Sukirti what she would have advised a broken-hearted and teary eyed Simran if she met her in real life at this crucial juncture. She replied wisely, “Falling in love often takes time. I would have advised her to wait for a while for Rajveer’s final response. If he still said ‘no’, I would have advised her to move on after a sabbatical as one should take a break before exploring another relationship possibility in a scenario like this.” Simran can’t cook in real life. We asked the pretty actress if she can cook in real life. She replied, “I can cook very well. My mother has taught me to cook very nice vegetarian Indian food. There was a scene in the show in which Simran tries to cook chappatis. I can’t reveal what happened in the scene but I can cook perfectly round and nice chappatis.” Cooking is often regarded as a pre-requisite in traditional Indian families when a girl is to get married. In fact, women are often shown cooking in soaps whereas men aren’t expected to know how to cook. What is her take on that? “Rajveer already knows that Simran can’t cook as he has seen her not being able to cook omelets. He is okay with that. I don’t think that cooking is regarded as a necessity for marriage for every Indian bride. There are many families who want a professionally qualified bride instead. Many brides learn cooking after marriage from their mothers-in-law. In Simran’s case as she will marry into a rural Haryanvi family maybe they would like her to cook as Haryanvis are usually foodies who wish to have homemade food. Even I like to have ghar ka khana.” Shouldn’t soaps show men cooking too? “Maybe her husband will help her to learn cooking. Also many Indian bachelors are good cooks. My dad would cook very well during his bachelor days and can cook well even now. He makes delicious paneer and baigan ka bharta.” Will Simran be wearing Western clothes or Indian attire in future in her matrimonial household? Sukirti replied, “Sorry, I am bound by contract not to reveal the future story.” Would she want Simran to wear both Western and ethnic attire after marriage? “Yes, that is indeed what I would have wanted. In real life, I would have preferred Western attire though.” On a concluding note, we asked her what her take was on first love. Simran is in love for the very first time in her life. Why is falling in love for the first time so special especially for girls? She replied with poise, “You fall in love unexpectedly. You feel ecstatic while in love. I feel that being in love for the first time is special for boys too. Girls are however more emotional and romantic.” For more updates on the show keep watching this space.
