Aamir’s Brave Theatrical Release for Most Loved Film, Sitaare Zameen Par Earns Praise from Prosenjit Chatterjee, says, "He Can Take the Risk”!

MUMBAI: Aamir Khan’s highly awaited film Sitaare Zameen Par has finally arrived in theatres. Touted as a spiritual successor to the beloved Taare Zameen Par (2007), the film generated immense buzz not just for its emotional legacy but also for Aamir’s bold decision to skip OTT and opt for a theatrical release. This move, aimed at reviving the big-screen experience and uniting audiences in cinemas, was seen as a major risk. Even acclaimed actor Prosenjit Chatterjee acknowledged the significance of such a shift.

In a recent interview, Prosenjit praised Aamir’s conviction, stating that while such changes are much needed, only someone with his experience can take such a bold step, saying, "He can take the risk. He has been serving the industry for many years, and he understands the pulse and sensibilities of the audiences."

Prosenjit Chatterjee recalled a time when the theatre business was struggling due to the rise of CDs, adding, “I remember long back when content would be sold to CD companies, and it paid producers handsomely. However, after a year or two, I realised that the CDs were already in the market in a few days, and the theatre business was getting affected. So I called up all the producers for a meeting and we jointly decided that while the rights would be sold off, we need to have a gap of a good 9-12 weeks. All producers came together, and things changed to a certain level.”

Prosenjit praised Aamir for taking such a risk, saying, "In three or four weeks, they would start playing Bengali and even Hindi films on television. So, we stopped that and said let's give it after eight weeks. To save the theatrical business and cinema, he (Aamir Khan) is a person who can think this way or take this kind of risk. Nothing will change, a film will come on OTT and then on satellite television. That's how it works, that's how we reach our Indian audiences. But let's see how this goes (Sitaare Zameen Par's only-cinema model), and I hope it works."

Aamir Khan Productions proudly presents 10 rising stars: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
