MUMBAI : The news of Sanjay Dutt's lung cancer diagnosis left everyone in utmost sorrow. It was after complaining of breathlessness that the actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital. As per a report in Times Of India, Dutt, at first, assumed that he has developed symptoms of COVID-19; however, they persisted even after testing negative. The actor was then advised to undergo a CT scan, followed by a PET scan, and that's when he learnt about his illness. Here's presenting the sad sequence of events.

A source close to Lilavati Hospital said to the portal that it was on August 8 that Sanjay felt breathless and consulted a doctor. Amid the ongoing pandemic, the actor was worried if he has contracted COVID-19 since after checking on his oximeter at home, Sanjay discovered that his oxygen levels had dropped. He was then advised to visit Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital (Bandra), where they could check him for COVID-19. However, Sanjay informed the authorities that his Coronavirus test was negative but the symptoms were still bothering him.

"Upon reaching the hospital, it was detected that air entry was not happening from his right lung. A CT scan further revealed that there was fluid accumulation in his right lung (pleural effusion) accompanied by two lesions, one on each lung. Sanjay was told that it could be a bacterial infection, tuberculosis, an adverse effect of strenuous exercise wherein he might have hurt himself, or cancer. The fluid was removed, the volume was as high as 1.5 litres. A 2-day hospitalisation followed. Sanju kept asking a lot of questions especially when he was told that the extracted fluid was about to be sent for detailed diagnosis," said a source.

Further, Dutt was asked to undergo a PET scan and just when it was nearing to its completion (on August 10, Monday), the hospital's histopathology department found out that the fluid had cancer cells. Sanjay's PET scan, too, confirmed cancer. In no time, the actor took a counselling session wherein Sanjay was told about his illness. He then consulted an oncologist that gave him all the details about the possible treatment. The Bhoomi actor was given a choice of going abroad. Sanjay was told that at his stage, chemotherapy was the only option and surgery can't be performed. The doctor informed him that his chemotherapy sessions will be broken down into several cycles, depending on the line of his treatment.

Here's wishing Sanjay Dutt a speedy recovery.
