Top Bollywood production houses don't pay well - Ranveer Singh

(Photo credit- Rohan Shrestha) For all those who thought acting was one of the top paying jobs in the country, they may have well got it wrong. Acting today no longer commands the same monetary benefits as it used to once upon a time. Unless you are a top bracket star (we are talking about the Khans, Kapoors, Roshans), you will paid a pittance for your time and effort as an actor. Even top stars earn much through profit sharing rather than their acting fees. It's common knowledge that top production houses hardly pay well. Infact, bigger the production house, lesser will be your chances of earning big moolah. For instance, Rajkunmar Rao by his own admission had received Rs. 16,000 for his debut movie Ragini MMS produced by Balaji. SRK, too had once said he made more money through endorsements and dancing at weddings than from films. Emphasising this brutal way of showbiz is current heartthrob Ranveer Singh. Despite being a top rated star Ranveer admits that his earnings have not exactly shot up to keep up with his fame as it should have. Says Ranveer, "My father often tells me that I have achieved fame and success but not money." Ask him the reason behind the existence of this anomaly, Ranveer says, "The best work in Bollywood doesn't pay well. The thing is you get paid a lot more for things which would be a harder decision for you to make. The easy ones, the slam-dunks like the big brands, the big production houses, big directors hardly pay well. The bigger they are, the lesser they pay." Ranveer though doesn't have a reason to complain since money has never been a driving force for him. "I don't work for money. Infact, when my business managers tell me that I have to go to a particular place to pick up my paycheck I find it boring to waste my time and go there just to pick my paycheck. I could use that time to do something more creative." Well, Ranveer's lucky that he is from a well-to-do family which allows him to continue acting despite the not-so-good-pay. Wonder what will happen to those actors who don't have deep pockets.
