Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth are the only two actors from South India to have made it big in Bollywood. Many after them have tried but in vain. No one apart from these two southern legends have been able to leave an indelible mark on B-town aficionados. However, even in case of Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, both attained mega stardom down South which prompted them to make the southern movie industry their permanent haven. While Rajinikanth almost stopped doing movies in Bollywood, Kamal continued making sporadic appearances through movies like Chachi 420 and Hey Ram while continuing to be prolific down south. In the recent past, Bollywood has witnessed a host of young male South actors making their debut. From Prithviraj to Ram Charan Teja, all have tried but ended up failing to create an impression. But the arrival of Dhanush has changed the scenario a bit. After delivering a stand out performance with Raanjhanaa, Dhanush is being heralded as the new hope from South. Kamal Haasan however sees Bollywood as a level playing field. When asked about the existing vacuum of South Indian talent after he and Rajinikanth left the scene, Kamal said, "There has never been a vacuum. It's only a question of opportunity. I don't think of Bollywood in terms of North India, South India or East India. You can be from Bihar, Assam or even Nepal. If you are a good actor, you will survive. Danny Denzongpa is a good example." When asked about his thoughts on Dhanush who is acting with Akshara, Kamal said, "He is a good actor. He is also a filmmaker and not just an actor." Kamal Haasan has two mega releases lined up for release- Uthama Villain and Vishwaroopam 2. While the former may release in Diwali this year, the latter is still in post production.
