Censor board chief Rakesh Sharma arrested for alleged bribery.
Finally curtains have fallen on the ignominious career of Censor Board chief Rakesh Kumar. In a late evening development, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Censor Rakesh Kumar for allegedly demanding Rs 70,000 from an agent to clear a regional film.
The film in question is from Chhattisgarh titled "Mor Dauki Ke Bihav". The alleged modus operandi was uncovered when an authorised agent for censor certification approached the CBI alleging that another agent Shripati Mishra demanded a bribe of Rs. 70,000 on behalf of Rakesh for issuing the censor certificate for the film.
After receiving the complaint, the CBI laid a trap to catch the suspected agents red handed and arrested an agent and advisory panel member last week.
Rakesh was booked and questioned by the CBI the last weekend and he was arrested yesterday evening after investigators reportedly found enough prima facie evidence which indicated that he had demanded the bribe. The said film couldn't be released as the arrests were made before the clearance was given.
Meanwhile cries in the industry have grown over the urgent need to have a film personality as the head of the censor board.
