A page from the personal diary of Suhasi Dhami
I would like to share one incident that is really close to my heart. I am a trained Bharat Natyam dancer and I respect the dance form a lot. I was quite young when I started learning Bharat Natyam and like everyone else it was my dream to perform my Arangetram. Arangetram is a graduation performance that reflects different stages of a dancer’s consciousness. It usually takes six to seven years of practice in order to perform Arangetram. After seven years of hard work and meticulous training I took the stage and performed the coveted dance form in front of my gurus, family members and other admirers of Bharat Natyam. That day was the best day of my life as everyone came up to me and hugged me in appreciation with tears in their eyes. I can never forget that moment. Now I hardly find time to practice Bharat Natyam and I feel sad at times. But once things get sorted and I can give more time to myself, I shall begin dancing again.
Furthermore, one thing that I have realised in life is to remain grounded when you are doing well in life. There are many who misbehave with people and throw lots of starry airs which is certainly not acceptable. I have always known the fact that today you are on a high but tomorrow things might go adverse and you won’t find anyone around at difficult times. My parents have always told me to stay in touch with reality. It is true when people love you and want to know about you, an air of superiority seeps in, but that should be averted at any cost. I try to avoid complexities in life as much as possible. Being simple is the key. No matter who you are fate can strike you with its wrong hand at any point of time. Even someone like Amitabh Bachchan has gone through a bad phase in life. So I always try to be good to people. Other than that, I would like to thank my fans for the love and respect they have given me, and I promise them to work hard and keep entertaining them in the future.
