#WorldTVDay: Celebs, Indian television and more

International Television Day

Some might call it an idiot box and some may be worshipping it. We might hate it or love it but we just cannot deny the fact that the world is hooked to TV today.

On the occasion of International Television Day, our own television celebs share their experience about the Indian television shows that have changed over the years and their experiences about being a part of this change.

Roopal Tyagi- I have always wanted to act although medium was never that important for me, TV is the fastest way to connect to a large audience instantly. No doubt the industry has gone through a major change in last few years. Women are being projected as strong personalities, no more subjected to violence or repression like earlier days. I even remember there was a show on Zee TV, Kareena Kareena, which I was very fond of. The way the protagonist used to narrate her story apart from playing her character was simply wonderful. Sometimes I wonder why such shows are not being made now.

Gautami Gadgil Kapoor- I believe that 80’s was the peak time of Indian television. Few shows like Buniyaad, Nukkad, Yeh Jo Hain Zindegi all these shows changed the scenario of Indian television industry. Then the type of shows that came up somehow showed women in a weak and regressive stat but now again the shows see a change in trend. Women are now being shown in a better position. Different types of contents are being used; improved techniques and software are being utilised. The best part is that now even the audience is accepting this change.

Sakshi Tanwar- Firstly on this day I would like to wish everyone in the industry for being a part of it and making TV so popular. Television nowadays is growing as a powerful medium with the maximum reach. This was not the case earlier. So, definitely in a way it has changed as it is one of the strongest medium to reach out to a wider audience.

Shivin Narang- I believe the television industry has definitely changed over the years. Television has always been a reflection of the society. Nowadays most of the shows are youth oriented and even in our country 70% of the population consists of youth. Moreover, now day’s lots of channel are coming up and for that the producers are coming up with new ideas. The audiences have the chance to witness something fresh.

Ravi Dubey- I believe that content wise shows are changing but the core nucleus of the shows is still the same. Somehow the shows are like old wine and new bottle. I believe that the show I am doing now Jamai Raja is very different content wise. So, these types of shows bring an interesting twist.

Ankur Nayyar- After being a part of this industry for long I can see the changes that are coming up. Not only many new and different types of shows are being made, but, television as an industry has also grown a lot. Earlier only people used to come to Mumbai only to be in films but now youngsters arrive to try their luck on TV. There are few shows in the past like Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai, Bomkyesh Bakshi, Yeh Jo Hai Zindegi which I would love to see again.

Madhura Naik- Well I think shows now days have changed but there are lots more to happen. Nowadays many youth oriented shows are being made and that trend should be taken up by more makers.

Rohit Khurana- Many shows on television have depicted mostly the cultural and traditional themes. After a certain point it starts stretching the show. I think finite series like 24 should be made. Even people love Pakistani shows which are of finite series. Only after these changes are made I can say that television has fully changed and developed.
