TV Celebs talk about AIDS awareness in India

Today is the World AIDS Day. On the occasion, we spoke to few TV celebs who shared their views on AIDS awareness in this country. Take a look…

Janvi Vora- India surely needs more awareness on AIDS. According to me on every channel and in every school we must run a documentary on educating adults and children so that they are aware about the disease..

Ankur Verma – I feel more awareness is needed specially in rural areas of our country where there is  lack of knowledge among people. If government could arrange awareness programs it would really help people to earn more knowledge and people won’t commit mistakes . In schools also a special subject regarding this topic should be introduced to spread awareness.

Mrunal Jain- Safe sex is very important. The acceptance of need of sex is required to be addressed rather than shying away from it. AIDS is a deadly disease and more awareness is surely needed. Sex education should be mandatory for students above 11 years in schools.

Sumit Kaul -  Already government and non government agencies as well as private individuals are doing  their bit in this regard. However I feel the need of the hour is to use this platform to address the basic issue of sex being taboo in our country even today. Parents still don't talk openly about it with children. The taboo extends even to partners. Even people in intimate relationships don't talk to each other on this subject. Communication is the key. Having said that we as a society have to stop looking at an AIDS patient as a criminal or an untouchable. We need to be more compassionate and understanding towards them.

Ankit Gera  -  I remember in school we were educated about AIDS. I think they should keep continuing this activity in schools. And they put commercial ads which will educate people and help them to be aware of this disease.

Mohammed Nazim - I feel it’s necessary to create awareness.  People should be well educated about this disease and also in school they should compulsorily provide sex education so that they are also aware and spread awareness to everyone. Awareness can spread through banners and showing ads on television. Condoms should be freely distributed.

Vahbiz Dorabjee  - In India it’s close minded society and I feel India badly needs awareness. They should do lot of campaigns and imparting sex education in school will improve a lot.

Meghna Malik - Creating AIDS awareness is surely a necessity. Creating awareness involves a dialogue between students and the teachers in various institutions and schools and also between children and parents at home. Though various governmental and organizational institutions are already working in one way or the other for the cause the reach to common people should be increased.

Sandeep Anand - I think we need to spread awareness about AIDS all over. People are already aware about this disease but they fail to follow the  precautions. This disease reduces the age of the person. And people should gain more knowledge about this disease by attending the campaigns and by educating themselves.

Shivin Narang -  From past five to six years there have been AIDS awareness campaigns. It should be increased. It can be spread by showing this in television daily soaps and also in movies. In school they should provide sex education too.

Nalini Negi  - I think it’s very much important that people should be aware about this disease. And this awareness can spread through  promotions, showing documentary and putting up banners.

Rishina Kandhari -   AIDS causes, death, pain and misery. More than one third of reported cases of HIV/AIDS in India are among youth and 60 percent of these reside in rural areas. Basic knowledge of AIDS is still lacking in the rural youth. Literacy and media exposure are factors that determine awareness of HIV among them.  Let's take a pledge today to kill the killer.

Shraddha Musale -  There are two aspects about AIDS awareness, one is how to avoid contracting it and the second is how to not discriminate against people for HIV positive. For the first aspect people need to basically need to take precautions in intercourse using clean and fresh cream. For second aspect so the society should not discriminate people.

Adaa Khan -  Basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS is still lacking. Literacy and media exposure are factors that determine awareness of HIV among them and can be helpful to raise their knowledge regarding this scourge.

Vivek Mishra  - We definitely need to create more awareness by educating the youth by making sex education compulsory in schools and colleges. We should also legalize prostitution as it will help people to practice safe sex and also prevent rape. Government should start giving condoms to college students as they tend to experiment more in sex, so safe sex is needed.

Tina Dutta  - We should create awareness among people through various medium including TV and print. AIDS is a killer disease. In film theatres a documentary should be there just like there are anti smoking campaigns.

Ajay Chaudhary -  I think more promotions should be done and government should take a step ahead and do this events so that people get educated specially in smaller cities. I feel even in television daily soaps they should spread message of AIDS awareness.

Gaurav S. Bajaj -   I personally think that a real good impact on public is through celebrity campaigns. The best example is Mr. Amitabh Bachchan who promotes so many things. When he says people follow. Celebrities can come together to help defeat the disease.
