Watching TV together on a cosy weekend afternoon is quite a treat: Vijay Subramaniam

Vijay Subramaniam

Disney India recently launched its family series, ‘Shanivar Ravivar for Parivar’ wherein five new shows will entertain audiences.

Talking to Vijay Subramaniam, Vice-President, Content and Communications at Disney India, Tellychakkar.com got a hang of the content of the shows and also the plans the channel has for its viewers.

“It’s been a successful ride connecting to the young audience via our peppy content. And apart from being the number one kids’ channel, what really gave us a boost was that we always had parental approval. Thus this is our way to treat the whole family with something special and thus we decided on launching shows for the entire family.”

But families have become more nuclear these days? “Yes,  you are right about nuclear family but yet the connect between different members or families is still strong. And I think today people enjoy spending time together with your loved ones. And watching TV together on a cosy weekend afternoon is always a treat.”

The shows as Vijay shared would be all in the ‘happy’ zone and work towards the vibrant and local stories that would work on the upliftment of values. “Bringing out optimism, joy of childhood and humour will be our prime objective through this live action shows. Disney believes in bringing a unique thumb printing in terms of brand and content for the family audience. This would be our first generation audience and we are putting in all our hearts for bringing the best for them.”

Vijay confirmed us that these shows will be fictional. “Shows will be either 26 or 30 episodes each. We did not want to carry on with a long show that gets deterred in quality. Also since they are episodic based one can catch on with them from anytime. But yes, some shows might come back with a season if the popularity continues to remain so.”

With five shows launching, we asked him which according to him is his favourite? “I think Goldy Ahuja is my choice, for it showcases the relationship of father and son. Since I too have a young son, I think it would be a great watch to see this show.”
