Divorces - The current trend on TV shows

Divorces- The current trend on TV shows

Indian television shows have variant colours now, both in the fiction and non-fiction space. However, one tried and tested formula which has always proved to be a TRP churner, is the ‘divorce’ plot.

If it’s a one sided separation, the rona dhana by the other partner leads to ample emotional outburst. If it’s a mutual one, then it leads to mudslinging, scheming, much to the interest of popcorn munching audiences.

And wallah!!! If situations lead to estrangement, then gear up for helluva emotional super panting drama, buckets of tears and roaring TRPs.

And the ‘divorce’ card is being played out quite effectively in many ongoing shows.

Let’s have a look!!!

Firstly, it’s Balaji Telefilms. The production house played the trick awesomely well in its path breaking shows like Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasautii Zindagi Ki among many others.

They have the same flavor now in their current shows, Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyar on Sony TV(Neil and Ragini), Yeh Hai Mohabbatein  on Star Plus (Shagun and Raman), Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh on Life OK (Samarth and Shobha), Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi on Colors (Ranveer and Ishaani) and Kumkum Bhagya on Zee TV (have all enjoyed good run on the TRP ladder).

The above mentioned shows have a loyal fan following and with their track seeing the lead couples move apart, it was interesting to see their journey from love to separation and now treading back again towards love.

Moving on, two youth shows Ek Veer Ki Ardaas Veera on Star Plus, Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali on Life OK, and Shastri Sisters on Colors are also currently treading the path towards divorces of the leads. On one hand Baldev wants to move apart from Veera owing to misunderstandings. MRMRW shows Radha intending to divorce LD; who on the other hand is trying his best to woo her back. And finally Rajat and Anushka in Shastri Sisters are also trying their best to deal with their relationship crisis.

Other shows that revolved heavily around the divorce drama are Doli Armaanon Ki on Zee TV and Beintehaa (Colors). Doli showcased the ugly divorce between Samrat and Urmi who fought not only for their ego but also the custody of their child. Beintehaa interestingly brought the theory of divorce and ‘halala nikah’. Zain and Aaliya who got divorced owing to misunderstandings had to go through the test of halala nikah also that forces a divorced woman to marry another man in order to get back again with her divorced husband.

Well, with the success of the divorce track, we are sure soon many other creatives would also incorporate the same in other shows.
