V-Day Special: Onscreen Romantic Pairings That We Love

One of the reasons a movie becomes a cult is due to the crackling chemistry of the lead pair. As lovers all over the world turn to Bollywood to draw inspiration for Valentine's Day, we come up with a list of ten such hot onscreen pairings that makes us drool. Read on:

Raj-Simran (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge):

The evergreen jodi from one of the longest running movies tops our list, and rightly son. Every loved-up pair has wanted to be the next Raj-Simran because it's the love story we have grown up on. From the sweet arguments to their dedication for each other, it makes us believe in love and that true love overcomes every difficulty. Are you going to pull a DDLJ this love season?

Ram-Leela (Goliyon Ki Raasleela- Ram Leela):

Their love story may be a tragic one, but it doesn't make it any less romantic. Despite being from different casts and creed, they broke the shackles of society unite, albeit in death. They showed us what leave can do and how it only makes us stronger.

Rahul-Anjali (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai):

'Pyaar dosti hai', says Rahul. That sums up the entire movie, which deftly handles one of the most hard-hitting love triangle of Bollywood. Two best buddies of the opposite sex don't realise their passionate love for each other, till the very end of the movie. So if you have a best buddy who's giving you those 'subtle' hints, think over it and give love a chance this month!

Devdas-Paro (Devdas):

Any lover boy who drinks himself to death is called 'Devdas'. The character's name is synonymous with unrequited love, much like the doomed protagonist of this epic Bengali story. While Devdas and Paro could never reunite in real life, their tragic story had made millions of couples swear by their partners during bad times. Now that's an achievement, eh?

Abhimanyu-Shanaya (Student Of The Year):

You might be surprised to see these two on the list, but let us tell you that today's youth have a love story much like Abhimanyu and Shanaya's. They don't realise what's love and confuse like and lust for the L word. If you're confused about what your emotions for another person are, it would help you to take a cue or two from this gorgeous couple. Not just love, you can learn a lot about fashion from this dashing duo too! With the two allegedly dating in real life, their onscreen love saga has become a benchmark for youngsters.

Prem-Nisha (Hum Aapke Hain Kaun?)

In an era where we see the characters openly smooching and making out, the coy love story of Prem and Nisha from the Bharjatya brand of movies, makes for a sweet surprise. They fall in love amidst the chaos of a big, fat wedding and profess their love for each other only through their eyes. They don't make such characters anymore, do they?

Subir Kumar-Uma (Abhimaan):

Despite being madly in love with each other, the successful and headstrong Subir can't accept his wife's growing success as a singer. The movie not only made Jaya and Big B the IT pair of their times, but also gave us some very memorable songs.

Geet-Aditya (Jab We Met):

It's the classic case of opposites coming together because Geet's exuberant personality meets the quite Aditya in one of the most amazing Bollywood love stories ever. We would have loved it had Bebo and Shahid ended up together in real life too...if this pairing doesn't make your dil go 'Mauja Hi Mauja', you're not a Bollyholic yet.

RJ-Aarohi (Aashiqui 2):

It has Abhimaan's premise, but a rather tragic twist to the tale at has given this movie a blockbuster status.  Chart-busting singer Rahul Jaykar meets the immensely talented nightclub singer Aarohi and the two fall in love so doomed that it makes us want to weep for the two. Let's not forget that this movie has given us the love anthem of this decade, the soulful 'Tum Hi Ho'. Need we say more?

Rohit-Soniya (Kaho Na Pyaar Hai):

A middle class boy falls for his employer's pretty daughter. But their love is ill-fated because Rohit is bumped off by his lover's father. If you thought that was all, you've clearly never seen a Bollywood movie before. Because hero comes back, albeit as Raj, and sweeps the lady off her feet in true filmy style. Apart from the many hummable numbers, this movie also gave as Hrithik Roshan for which women everywhere are extreme grateful.
