Baba Sehgal to star in Star Plus' family drama

After music videos, an average film foray and some TV anchor jobs later, Baba Sehgal is now polishing his histrionic skills for a family drama soon to air on Star Plus. The Dil Dhadke guy will be keeping up his image - playing a flamboyant Punjabi, complete with earring and chunky jewelry, but with hair grown long for the role. Baba says he plays the elder of two brothers in this fast paced daily soap tentatively titled Le Jayenge Le Jayenge and scheduled to launch sometime in June.
Based on a Spanish show format, Le Jayenge…revolves around the trails and tribulations of a Punjabi family. With a storyline that seems to be on the same lines as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, could prove to be a runaway winner. Baba is also getting ready with the release of his own hip hop bhangra album sometime in September this year as well as donning the cap of music director for Punjabi films. "But I decided to take up this offer as nothing much is happening in the music industry at present," he says matter of factly. Viewers have not seen Baba on the telly since the Superhit Muqabla days when the musician did a lively job of hosting the countdown show on DD Metro. For now, he's gearing up to tackle a daily, shooting for which starts 16 May in Mumbai, with shoot schedules lined up for Delhi too in the near future. Keeping Baba company in Le Jayenge.. are veteran artistes Avtar Gill and Himani Shivpuri, among others. Himani Shuivpuri will play a very important role in the Contiloe venture. Himani, who has been part of such sentimental Punju flicks, plays a widow, Billoo, who couldn’t marry her love due to certain circumstances. “It’s a subtle play of emotions between the two characters, not like the youngsters of today, who go around kissing in public and end up getting clicked!” Himani says with a laugh.
