In conversation with Suhani 'Icchadhari Naagin' Dhanki

Suhani Dhanki

Dancer turned actor Suhani Dhanki is over the moon after bagging the lead role of Maya in &TV’s recently launched re-incarnation saga, Adhuri Kahani Hamari (4 Lions Films).

The girl feels that she is at an advantage as she plays the role of an Icchadhari Naagin in the show, owing to her mythological connect as part of her dance curriculum. A trained classical dancer and teacher, Suhani is enjoying her balancing act of being an actor and a teacher at the same time.

Yes, we hear from the girl that she gets an off of two days every week to pursue her dance learning and teaching.

In a hearty conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Suhani talks at length about her role in the show…

“I am extremely delighted to play Maya in Adhuri Kahani Hamari. I became an actor by chance when I bagged the role of Madri in Mahabharat. And after Mahabharat ended, I took a break from acting to complete my education. And when I was offered the role of Maya, I was indeed apprehensive to begin with. But after a lengthy chat with the Producer and creative, I decided to take it on. And what helped me in understanding the role better was my knowledge about dance,” explains Suhani.

“Since Maya is a Naagin, she needs to express through her eyes. And being a dancer, I get excited performing such scenes,” she adds.

The confident young girl is not at all worried about playing the antagonist on the show. According to her, “It is indeed the negative lead role. But what matters is the way in which an actor gets into the role and portrays it. And I am happy with the preparations I have done. This is indeed a good beginning for the show and for me in the role.”

Talking about the preparations she had to go through for the role, Suhani avers, “This role is quite adventurous, as I need to hang on to the harness when my chroma portions need to be shot. My look in itself is encouraging. As you must have seen, I have a normal nicely dressed upper half, while the lower portion of my body needs to be draped in a chroma cloth. I look forward to more of dancing in the show, as my role requires that.”

Suhani is equally excited about her present day avatar which will be a welcome change to the audience in the days to come. “I will be wearing stunning outfits in my modern day avatar. Viewers will be surprised after seeing me in this role, after seeing me as the Naagin.”

A classical teacher at the Bharata College of Fine Arts and Culture, Mumbai, Suhani gets a lot of encouragement from her Dance Guru and ofcourse, her family. “My dance guru Dr. Sandhya Purecha has given me unhesitant support at all quarters of life. She has been the one who has pushed me forward to take up acting. In addition to being part of the show, I see to it that I give my dance learning a lot of time. Also, I get my breaks to tutor the students in college.”

This is just the beginning for the girl, and we are sure she has a long way to go!! Way to go, Suhani…
