Initially, I was very confused about my role in Aadhe Adhoore- Rohit Bhardwaj

Delhi-born, Rohit Bhardwaj started his acting career at a very young age and has established his presence in the industry within a short period of time. An avid traveller and an ardent music lover, Rohit charmed audiences across the nation with his powerful portrayal of Pranay in 'Firangi Bahu' and his outstanding performance in ‘Kya Mast Hai Life'.

Rohit is now portraying the role of Viren in one of Zindagi’s first original fiction shows – Aadhe Adhoore which is an unconventional story of relationships, longing and unrequited love. As Viren, Rohit plays the role of a young Punjabi munda, who is loved by his family. As the man of the house, Viren earns a living through a small cosmetics shop that he runs in Kapurthala. Jassi, his sister in law, often teases him about the women that frequent his shop, however Viren doesn’t pay them any attention. As Jassi and Viren get closer a bond develops between them that potentially threatens both their marital lives causing severe repercussions for the entire family.

Please tell us something about your background

I’m a Delhiite but I have travelled a fair bit since my father used to work in a bank and we would get transferred from one city to another very often. I have lived in Karnataka for almost 20 years! I have worked in a few shows before – Firangi Bahu and two shows for Disney. Our director/producer Ajai Sinha is my inspiration in the industry and I am thrilled to be a part of his show.

Tell us about your role?

I play the role of Varinder also known as Viren, Jassi’s brother-in-law. He is a fun loving guy who falls in love with his sister-in-law. The circumstances he finds himself trapped in are very new to him. He has never faced such situations. The way he handles them and his journey makes for an integral plot of the show. I was very confused about accepting the role initially... about what to do and how to play this character. But after a few days, with Ajaiji’s guidance and help from the rest of the cast & crew, I immersed myself to play the character.

What is the show about?

The title is self-explanatory. In life, nothing is ever complete and the journey to find completion is what Aadhe Adhoore is all about.

How did you manage to bag this role?

I almost switched to the field of direction when a friend told me about the show. I contacted the channel and they helped me get in touch with Ananda Films. I feel blessed to have bagged the role and the fact that it airs on Zindagi was just an icing on the cake.

It's not a conventional one so what attracted you to it?

Every actor wants to attempt a role that no one else has done before. Or one that no one else might take up. Everyone wants to be different, stand out. When I auditioned for the role, I was prepared for all including the audience reaction and my family’s reaction. I accepted the role because I knew it was going to be challenging.

What is the message of Aadhe Adhoore?

There is no particular message as such. We are only trying to tell a fiction story. A story that highlights what may or may not be happening in society. Superman isn’t real but he teaches us to always use power for a good purpose. Same with Aadhe Adhoore, we are trying to show the audience different problems people might be facing and how to be strong while facing them.

What was it like working with the rest of the cast and the veteran celebrated director Ajai Sinha?

I’m going to start off with Ajaiji – I don’t mean to offend anyone but I have never met such a beautiful and humble person in my life. He is such a great person; such a person can only inspire. He is so humble and I have learnt what humanity is only because of this man. Sonali is a wonderful actress and a good friend. I have learned a lot from her especially how to concentrate while working. The entire cast and crew of the show are wonderful and we are truly like one big family.

Any role models or inspirations or favourite actors?

I have one inspiration – my father. I admire the work he has done and the values he led his life with. Everything I do is to make him feel proud. He is no more but I wish to be like him someday and show the world what true positivity looks like.

Is there something that inspired you from the show?

Yes, one thing did. If you really want to do something, you must take a stand. I am not propagatinganything shown but the general idea of standing up for what you wish for is something that was a takeaway for me from the show.

Your show is one of Zindagi's first original fiction shows, how does it feel being a part of it?

I feel very blessed to get such an opportunity. To work with Zindagi and with Ajaiji is a double bonanza. I have received quite a lot of audience appreciation as well, which makes all the hard work seem easy and worthwhile.
