Choreographer-director Farah Khan, who has movies like Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year to her credit, is immensely talented...yes, that's old news.
After establishing herself as a successful choreographer, the raspy-voiced danseuse went where no filmmaker and director has been before, into commercial movie arena.
With A-list actors and actresses vying to be cast in her magnum opuses, Farah is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful directors in Bollywood today.
She is a mum to triplets and happily married to her multi-talented director-editor-writer husband, Shirish Kunder.
With great sense of humour and wit and abundance, the lady will be seen joining the judging panel on Colors’ no 1 dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
In a conversation with Tellychakkar.com, the actress speaks about her judging pattern, best dancers in Bollywood, upcoming projects and more...

Karan and my chemistry will be worth watching: Life's come a full circle as I had judged the first season of Jhalak with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shilpa Shetty. I remember that it was very exciting as for the first time a formatted dance show was launching. It’s been a long journey and I wonder why the Jhalak team did not call me in between. In this season, the most unique part will be my chemistry with Karan. I have done bits of India’s Got Talent with Karan. We will definitely have a great time together.
Govinda is the best dancer in Bollywood: The best dancer in Bollywood is Govinda who I have not choreographed yet. I don’t think I can choreograph him. I am not capable enough. He is just fantastic!
My favourite signature step is Munni Badnaam Most of the B-town divas are great dancers. I have done a lot of hit songs with Malaika Arora Khan, so, our jodi is superb. I think Priyanka Chopra is a great dancer too as she adds her different tadka to the dance. I like a lot of my signature steps but Munni Badnaam (Dabangg) is my favourite.
My kids are into dancing My girls are doing Ballet. They are not into filmy dancing at all. Sometimes, I doubt if they are my kids as they are too well behaved! They are very shy, but always up-to-date.
Jhalak 9 has very good dancers Yes, I have seen the first episode of Jhalak 9. I thought it was fabulous. I was very surprised as this time most of the contestants are very good dancers.
I was fascinated by Bollywood movies It depends on the type of person that you are and what kind of genre you like. I was always fascinated by Bollywood movies. I was not interested in art cinema. But now, when I watch movies like Udta Punjab, I really like them a lot. But I don't feel that I can make such movies. It’s all to do with personality.
It is very difficult to entertain people People think that if you are making them cry then it is a good movie but if it is a fun entertainer then they think it’s like any other usual stuff. But this is wrong as it is difficult to entertain people.
I will not act again I don’t think I will act again as I have not got any other offer. When I direct, I don’t even want to use a lipstick or a lip gloss as I want to be completely free and comfortable.
Upcoming project These reports of me doing a movie with Alia Bhatt and Parineeti Chopra are news to me also. Yes, I have written a script about two girls but still waiting for the casting. This should be my next film.
I judge dance shows as a choreographer When I am judging a dance show, I am mostly judging as a choreographer. I will pick the finer points of the dance, technique and body language. Then as an audience, like how entertaining it was and finally, as a director...knowing that this person is not a dancer and somebody who has put efforts so you give that extra merit marks to him/her.
Work with brother Sajid Although Sajid and I share a great bond, if we do a movie together as directors, the film will get killed.
My children are bad actors My children are already directing movies on I Pad. They are making trailers and my daughter directs. They act but they are bad actors. But I get surprised when they show me the trailers with background music. And they even ask me to be the costume designer in the movie. Also, if they fight amongst themselves, they cut one another’s name from the movie.
We must say that Farah is a multitalented lady!
