‘Mahakumbh’ fame Payal Rajput is all set to debut in Punjabi film with the official remake of the hit Marathi movie ‘Sairat’. The flick has been titled as ‘Channa Mereya’.

In a candid chat with Tellychakkar.com, the gorgeous actress shared her experience of working in the Punjabi film and her upcoming projects.

Payal said, “Channa Mereya is an official remake of Sairat but director Pankaj Batra has added his own elements. The film might be a copy of a story but still feels different than Sairat. The dialogues and treatment of the film are very different than the original. The actress of the original film (Rinku Rajguru) has done a great job and I know comparisons will be made, but I have tried to make the character my own.”

Talking about working in Punjabi films, she said, “Though I’m debuting with Channa Mereya, it’s not my first Punjabi film. I have shot for ‘Ishquaan’ but as luck would have it, ‘Channa Mereya is releasing earlier. I am a Punjabi and thus the language was not a big issue for me. I am not very fluent but my roots are Punjabi and I enjoyed doing this film.”

She further added, “Earlier, only Bollywood films were recognized, but now the times have changed. People have started realizing the talent of regional cinema and its actors. With success of films like Jatt and Juliet, Sardaar Ji, Punjabi film industry has got a new recognition.”

Talking about her experience of working alongside popular Punjabi artists Ninja and Amrit Maan, the talented actress said, “It was wonderful working with both Amrit and Ninja. They both are established stars in Punjabi industry. People in Punjabi industry are much more in love with films and people than professionalism. Though the actors and the whole team maintained their dignity, there was a comfortable vibe in the environment.”

We quizzed if she happens to be in the same situation as the film, would she dare to love, she quipped, “Yes, I think I will dare to love and stand by it. Of course, first I will try to convince my parents but if they do not get convinced, I will run away with my lover.”

Talking about her upcoming projects, she shared, “I’m doing another film ‘Veere Ki Wedding’ with Jimmy Shergil and Yuvika and one Bollywood film about which I cannot reveal right now.”

And is she returning to the small screen? “I did Mahakumbh last year and I do miss doing TV but right now I’m not doing anything in that space,” replied the actress.
