Biggest stars are not a product of Nepotism: Ragini Khanna

After doing a significant amount of 30 TV shows including the iconic Sasural Genda Phool and few movies, the talented Ragini Khanna is finally elated that she got to play a different role.

In her upcoming move Gurgaon directed by debutant Shanker Raman, Ragini plays a dark character something which she hasn’t tried before. The trailers are already out and Khanna has sunk her teeth into the role.

In a candid conversation with Tellychakkar.com Ragini revealed her perspective on the issue that has now become the talk of the town - Nepotism, her plans for the future and her upcoming film.

Excited that the director saw me as an actor and not just as a bubbly girl

Post Sasural Genda Phool, I only got offered roles like Suhana, the bubbly girl next door. After a point, I had to take a decision that I cannot be doing these kinds of roles. It was an excruciating transformation to break the stereotype. I was working on a film with Nawazzudin Siddiqui named Ghoomketu, while waiting for the release of the film I was offered Gurgaon and that’s how Gurgaon happened. When I read the script, I was very excited that the director saw me as an actor and not just as a bubbly girl out of a TV show.

I always want to do performance oriented roles

Right people have always seen me in right character. So though there were people who thought I could just do bubbly roles, there were good directors who saw my acting abilities. If you focus being an actor, a director will see your talent. A lot many actors don’t get time to experiment or try something new. I always wanted to do performance oriented roles and wanted to know where I’m lacking. That was only possible because of my squad. My mom, my friends even my hairstylist and everyone who surround me are my biggest critics. Moreover, given that I took these constructive criticisms in the right manner, I was able to break the mould.

I’m an introvert

My character in the film is called Preet, who is an introvert, she can never express herself. She is an architect who lives in Paris, soft spoken yet layered. This till date is a character that I can relate the most. Even I’m an introvert in real.

Biggest stars of our film history are not a product of nepotism.

People have always judged me, since I come from a family, I must have got it easy. However, if that was the case then I should have started my career with a big banner movie. In fact everyone in my family wants to make their own mark without any one’s help. Since I know my journey and what all I have been through, these opinions don’t really annoy me. In addition, I don’t have the same opinion about nepotism. At the end of the day talent survives. You can be anybody from anyone but if you are not sincere with your work and not hardworking no contacts can help you. Biggest stars of our film history are not a product of nepotism.

I turned a living Zombie

I quit TV as I was working for 22 hours a day for 6 years. It took a toll on my health. There came a time when I literally turned a living zombie, I didn’t even know the right switches of my house. I lost my perspective.

Directors are my star

For me medium really doesn’t matter as long as the content satisfies me. I will work with Sensible directors with perspective.  My directors are my star. Yes movies are on my mind but I’ll keep on coming on TV for some or the other reason.

Tellychakkar wishes the firecracker of a star Ragini Khanna all the very best for all her future endeavour!
