I don’t think I will do a commercial film again: Arpita Chatterjee

KOLKATA: Actress Arpita Chatterjee says that award winning actor Adil Hussain was one of the reasons why she gave her nod to the upcoming Bengali film Abyakto.

Abyakto is Arjunn Dutta’s first big feature film. Earlier, he has directed a short film called The 6th Element.

TellyChakkar asked why she said yes to the film: is it only about the script or is she supporting the newcomer director also? “The factors that I consider while doing any other film; it was the same with this film too. And, whether or not it’s a new director is not a criterion for me when I choose a film. How much my thoughts match with the director’s thought is an important factor,” said Arpita.

“Of course, added factor is Adil (Hussain). He is very enthusiastic and energetic. No matter how sweet he is, he won’t stop until and unless he is satisfied with his work. He is very free minded. He values everyone’s views. I think that’s a very positive approach,” added the actress whom we met recently at Belgachia Rajbari, Kolkata wherein she was shooting for a dream sequence along with Adil and others for the film.

The film Abyakto, a poignant tale of a mother and son, will feature Arpita in two completely different look. She is playing a woman at her mid-twenties and also of a woman who is 50-year-old while Adil is essaying the character of Rudra, a family friend.

The actress once had acted in many Bengali commercial hit films. When asked if the audience will be able to see her again in films that are high on dance and song and are shot in beautiful locations, she said, “I don’t think I will be seen in commercial films. I have crossed that age. And, I have no regret as when I had the age I did films like that.”

“Yes, the packaging and presentation (of Bengali commercial cinema) have changed but I don’t think I would like to do,” added the Satyanweshi, Ekti Tarar Khonje, and Dada Thakur fame actress.

Arpita’s first Bollywood film was Raveena Tandon starrer Shab, directed by Onir. The film saw her in the role of a coffee shop girl, Raina.

Asked about her plans of working in a Hindi film again, she said, “I am getting offers but not to my expectations. I might do web series.”
