Looks like Smita Singh aka Punpunwali in Colors’ Bhagyavidhata has taken her role a tad too seriously. Just as no one really likes her playing the devil on screen, in real life too, her co-actors have kept a safe distance from her, courtesy, her loud behaviour and starry tantrums. Apparently, the actress even claims that if it was not for her, the show would wrap up.
Informs an actor, on the condition of anonymity, “It’s not easy to handle success and Smita too hasn’t been able to digest the popularity her character has brought her. Nobody likes her and all the actors try to keep away from her. She is extremely loud and doesn’t bother to think even for once before opening her mouth. One has to be extra cautious while talking or discussing anything with her. She even claims that the show would end if she goes missing from it.”
“Smita is too loud. She boasts about her contacts in the industry and claims she knows the who’s who of the glamour industry and politics. One can’t stand her guts and she can’t even seem to understand how we are really tired of her. She would scream at the top of her voice during the shoot. It irks us and no number of requests has changed her, a wee-bit. The only option we were left with was to stop acknowledging her presence,” says another actor from the show.
Unperturbed by the cold vibes from her co-actors, Singh says, “This is such a big boost for me. I think they don’t talk to me as they are insecure about my ever-increasing popularity and success. People across the globe wait on the sets just to meet Punpunwali! The journalists who visit our sets request for my sound-bytes alone. I thank God for blessing me with so much love and attention. One is always jealous of someone superior to you. We don’t envy people who are not doing good in life but those who are better than us. So that justifies my co-actors’ jealousy towards me. I will always be grateful to the makers of the show for giving me such a brilliant character to portray and my viewers who have given such an overwhelming response.
“Another reason could be my show Teen ka Tadka. I mean who doesn’t want to participate in a show which only ropes in celebrities, not just actors? That means I have reached a position where people take me as a celebrity, which my co-actors are yet to attain. I just don’t care what my co-actors have to say about me as what really means to me is the response from my viewers. They love me despite me being wicked in the show. I have had seen many lows in my life and now I am enjoying my highs,” signs off the actress.
Ahem, ahem, now are Punpunwali’s detractors listening?
