I have learnt from my mistakes: Amyra Dastur

Actress Amyra Dastur has learnt from her mistakes, and says she likes to discuss projects with her parents before giving a go ahead.

"I learnt from my mistakes. You see the kind of films that do well, you see the films that don't do well and then you kind of get a sense of it. I don't think anybody has mastered the successful box office movie. Because the audience preferences are also changing consistently," Amyra told a leading publication over the phone.

"I just started picking films based on what I would watch as an audience and what my family would also watch," she added.

Amyra forayed in Bollywood in 2013 with Issaq, went on to do Tamil film Anegan, Hindi film Mr. X, Sino-Indian co-production Kung Fu Yoga. She is currently seen in The Trip 2, which premiered on all bindass platforms including YouTube on 5 October.

"I started talking to my mom and dad a lot more and I think that's what really helped me. I would come from a narration and tell my parents about the project and ask 'what do you all think'.

"My father is pretty honest. He will be like I would not like to watch it or watch it. From that time I started picking movies (like that) and I am happy about that."

The actress feels she is "doing the films which I want to do".

"My entire thing is about content. I want to do films that have good content and I feel will strike a chord with the audience," she added.

MAMI drops AIB, Rajat Kapoor's films from fest's line-up

The Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) has dropped two films -- AIB's Chintu Ka Birthday and Rajat Kapoor's Kadakh -- from the line-up of the upcoming 20th edition of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in the wake of the #MeToo tide.

"We as an Academy (MAMI) strongly support the #MeToo movement. In light of recent developments, we have decided to drop the following films from our line-up -- AIB's Chintu Ka Birthday and Rajat Kapoor's Kadakh," read a statement from MAMI.

It was sent to a publication via Whatsapp by MAMI's Creative Director Smriti Kiran.

"We want to use this opportunity to open up the conversation, and find solutions to harassment and sexual misconduct in the workplace. Starting with this edition of the festival, we would like to unite the community to find positive and constructive ways to deal with it," the statement read further.

Actor-director Rajat Kapoor has been called out by two women for inappropriate behaviour. He has apologised.

Comedy collective, All India Bakchod (AIB), on the other hand, landed in a full-fledged controversy after a woman named Utsav Chakraborty -- once associated with the group -- was named by a barrage of ladies on social media of sexual harassment.

Chakraborty accepted and apologised his misdeeds, but the #MeToo fire soon spread out to reveal how AIB's CEO and co-founder knew about it all along but did nothing against it. It even opened up a box of complaints against some of the group's other comedians, notably Gursimran Khamba.

On its part, AIB announced on Monday that Bhat and Khamba are "stepping away" from the group.

Difficult to be a woman in India: Soha Ali Khan

Actress Soha Ali Khan has come forward in support of Tanushree Dutta by saying it is very difficult to be a woman in a country like India.

Soha said this on Monday while interacting with the media here at the press conference of Saavn's 'No Filter Neha Season 3' along with Neha Dhupia, Sophie Chaudry, Angad Bedi and Gaurav Kapoor

Reacting on the #MeToo movement which is gaining momentum in India after actress Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassing her on a film's set in 2008, Soha said, "It's wonderful that women are speaking out. It's very difficult sometimes to be a woman in a country like India as they go through a lot on a daily basis."

"It takes a lot of courage to stand up and say that I wanted to tell my story so, I think women need to be supported and encouraged to do that," she said.

"I completely stand by and support any woman who wants to share her story," Soha added.

Echoing the same sentiments, Neha Dhupia said, "Not just as an actor but as a woman, when I started reading and hearing about it, it made me angry and furious."

"Sometimes, I see people are still questioning it but there is no need of questioning them. We have to believe them," she said.

Sophie Choudry also talked about #MeToo movement.

She said, "The worst that is happening is that people are asking why Tanushree took 10 years to speak about the issue. I don't think she is doing this to gain publicity. Knowing Tanushree a little bit, I think she was on talk show and there she was asked why she quit acting in films and she gave clear answer of that question."

I've no intention of becoming an actress: 'Gippi' director

Director Sonam Nair has featured in movies like Kapoor & Sons and her own film Gippi. She says she loves performing, but doesn't want to become an actress.

"I wish people would cast me," Sonam told a leading publication with a laugh.

"But I have no intention of becoming an actress. I love performing. So even when I am directing, I perform each character and say the lines because if I have written the dialogues I know how it is meant to be said and I am very dramatic as a person.

"So I would love to act. But I have not done anything to become an actress. I am in the film industry. I have lots of friends who are directors. When I go to their set, they tell me 'Do this line'. They know that I would be very happy doing them," she added.

Currently, she is being lauded for her project The Trip 2, which premiered earlier this month on all bindass platforms including YouTube.

Pallavi Sharda happy to work with Gurinder Chadha

Actress Pallavi Sharda has joined the team of Gurinder Chadha's India-set drama Beecham House, and says working with the director is an "absolute joy".

She has been roped in to play role of a princess in the period drama.

"It has been an absolute joy to work with Gurinder Chadha, someone who has inspired me since I first watched Bhaji on the Beach as a young girl. She has pioneered the representation of South Asian identity on mainstream screens globally and as a child of the diaspora - her work impacted me greatly," Pallavi said in a statement.

"It is so fulfilling to have a female leader with so much courage, gumption and a shared goal of bringing South Asian perspectives out of the shadows in the western world," she added.

The series takes place on the cusp of 19th century in Delhi, and follows the life of residents of the titular mansion. It will be filmed in India as well.

It also stars Tom Bateman, who has featured in films like Murder On The Orient Express and Snatched and Marc Warren, known for shows like The Vice and State Of Play, and Lesley Nicol of Downton Abbey.

Talking about her character, she said, "I play Chandrika, who is bold, proud and clings viscerally to her roots. She is close to John Beecham (played by Bateman), but no one in the house understands why. She is like a gallant and warrior-like, Indian woman who is prepared to fight for what she believes in. I didn't have to think twice when I got the offer to play Chandrika."

Pallavi was last seen in Lion with Dev Patel.

Pankaj Tripathi dons bell-bottoms, multi-coloured shirts in 'Shakeela'

For his role as an overdramatic actor-producer of the 1990s in Shakeela, actor Pankaj Tripathi will be seen in over-the-top style, flaunting bell-bottoms and colourful suits and shirts.

In the film, the Newton actor will not just be seen rocking the outfits, he will portray a boisterous hero who is overconfident, talented and knows he will get the girl.

When Pankaj went for a costume trial for the movie, he says he was in two minds and questioned himself if he will be able to carry such a colourful dress.

"My character was supposed to behave larger than life like a south Indian commercial hero. I was supposed to dance with the heroine. I was scared on the first day of the shoot.

"Normally I don't see the monitor after giving the shots, but later when I checked one of the scenes, I was surprised to see how I managed to pull these shots dancing with the heroine in a swimming pool."

For Pankaj, it was fun playing the part.

"I always wanted to dance, and do some action in a film... The audience will be surprised to see me in the role, just the way I am surprised to see myself in this role."

Shakeela is a directorial venture by Indrajit Lankesh and stars Richa Chadha in the titular role.

Hrithik urges 'Super 30' producers to take 'hard stand' against Vikas Bahl

Actor Hrithik Roshan has urged the producers of his upcoming film Super 30 to take a "hard stand" if need be amid sexual harassment allegations against the movie's director Vikas Bahl.

"It is impossible for me to work with any person if he/she is guilty of such grave misconduct. I am away and have access to some sporadic information. I have requested the producers of Super 30 to take stock of the apparent facts and take a hard stand if need be.

"This is not to be hushed or brushed under the carpet. All proven offenders must be punished and all exploited people must be empowered and given strength to speak up," Hrithik tweeted on Monday.

His statement comes a day after filmmaker Hansal Mehta took an indirect dig at Hrithik.

Mehta had commented that as a father of two daughters, he fears they may have to deal "with such predators just because nobody took any action against (Vikas) Bahl -- on the contrary a major star has acted in his new film. Who is empowered here? The victim or the creep?"

This didn't go down too well with Hrithik's fans who trolled Mehta and led the filmmaker to quit the social media platform.

Bahl has been accused by a woman of sexually harassing her repeatedly after the first incident in 2015 in Goa. She spoke about it in the media last year and her allegations resurfaced in the wake of the #MeToo wave which has taken Bollywood by storm ever since last month Tanushree Dutta renewed a 10-year-old allegation against Nana Patekar.

Phantom Films, which Bahl was a part of with business partners Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena, was last week dissolved.

Producer Dia Mirza cares for safe work ecosystem in company

Actress-producer Dia Mirza says she and her husband Sahil Sangha will ensure that their production company Born Free Entertainment will encourage women to speak up and will care for a safe working ecosystem.

Dia on Monday tweeted: "It's important that individuals are finding courage to speak up. And even more important that the media approach this with sensitivity, care and due investigation.

"Harassment of any kind at a workplace or anywhere else is absolutely unacceptable. We all want to live and work within an ecosystem that is safe and fair for all. I hope that the strictest action is taken against anyone found guilty of violating this fundamental right. It is important that cases be registered and due investigation conducted. Media must report facts."

Dia captioned the post: "Support those that find the courage to express their truth. Use this time to introspect. As we have. As producers we will ensure that our company Born Free Entertainment encourages women to speak up. Already working on gender balance we care for a safe work ecosystem. #Metoo"

Dia extended support to the #MeToo movement that has gained momentum in India after actress Tanushree Dutta accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of misconduct during the shoot of Horn Ok Pleassss ten years ago.
