MUMBAI: After Navjot Singh Sidhu’s comments on Pulwama terror attack, there was a trend on social media to boycott The Kapil Sharma Show.
Sidhu was the celebrity judge on the show.
On the Pulwama terror attack, which killed more than 40 Jawans, Navjot had said that for a 'handful of people', how can one blame the entire nation and an individual? He further said that the attack is a cowardly act and he condemns it firmly, and that violence is always condemnable and those who did it must be punished.
Later at an event in Chandigarh, Kapil was quizzed about the whole Navjot Singh Sidhu matter and he spoke up in support of him. This too did not go down well with Twitterati, and they demanded Kapil be boycotted. Producer Ashoke Panditt too took to Twitter and appealed to Salman Khan (producer of The Kapil Sharma Show), to take action on Kapil for his comments supporting Sidhu’s ‘anti-national’ statements.
Finally, Kapil Sharma opened up about the entire controversy.
He said to a leading publication, “People might have different opinions on how to deal with the perpetrators of terrorism, but we should not get distracted by it. The biggest tribute that we can pay to our martyrs is to show solidarity with their families in this hour of grief. I’m sure our armed forces will give a befitting reply to the terrorists and their handlers in Pakistan.”
