MUMBAI: The #MeToo movement created a wave and gave many a reality check in the entertainment fraternity. Many unexpected, renowned, and famed entertainers across the fields of music, acting, production, and direction stepped down from their positions.
And among those was veteran music composer Anu Malik, who was asked to step down as the judge for Indian Idol 10, as he was under fire for numerous allegations of sexual harassment. Shweta Pandit and Sona Mohapatra were two of the accusers. Shweta claimed that she was just 15 when Malik had asked her to give him a kiss. The singer has denied the allegations against him.
Now reportedly, Mr. Malik is back and is currently shooting for the upcoming season of Indian Idol alongside fellow judges Vishal Dadlani and Neha Kakkar. But after the upheaval and extensive controversy around him, should he be judging the reality show?
Ankita Puri, a BMM graduate, is of the opinion that he should not be judging the show. 'It is absolutely wrong. Anu Malik has been accused of something that just shows that he does not promote talent in a healthy way. Why have him as the judge?'
Sujata Rathod, a housewife, shared, 'Anu Malik is an entertainer, and his screen presence is a visual delight. Even if he is accused, neither have the reports been confirmed nor has it been proven that he is guilty of the allegations, else he would have been behind bars. If the makers are bringing him on-board , there must definitely be a reason behind it, as no criminal or offender would be given an opportunity.'
Namratha Iyer, a doctor, expressed, 'It is very unlikely that people who are famous and have power will be proven guilty. The accusers will have to bear the brunt of accusing them. I would not like to see him judge the reality show as the first thing that will pop up in my head is that he tried to misuse his position and power in the industry.'
