Bidita Bag concerned about parents post Amphan

MUMBAI: The super cyclone Amphan has unleashed havoc in West Bengal, and Bollywood actress Bidita Bag is concerned about her parents who live in Santragachhi.

"The situation is very bad in Santragachi. A lot of trees have been uprooted. I have shared a video on social media, and the situation at my home is similar. Our ground floor is flooded with water level as high as one foot. A tin facade in front of our house has flown away. A huge jackfruit tree which I had planted as a kid has been uprooted. Our mango tree is half dead. The loss is huge," Bidita told IANS.

"Dad has a library with a huge collection of around 40,000 books in the ground floor. A lot of books have been damaged due to waterlogging in our home," she added.

Bidita's parents stay alone at their home in Santragachhi near Howrah, and the actress, who is in Mumbai during the ongoing COVID 19 lockdown can't stop worrying about them. She has not been able to speak to them, what with the phone lines being down.

"It seems my parents are all right. I last spoke to them at around 11pm on the day of the cyclone. After that, I am unable to get in touch with them due to disrupted mobile network connectivity. I have only received a couple of text messages from dad saying that they are fine. Electricity, water supply and internet connection in our locality is yet to be restored. It will take at least another three to four days for these to be restored," shared the actress.

Super cyclone Amphan hit West Bengal on Wednesday afternoon and caused severe damage in various parts of the state. The wind speed ranged from 155 kmph to 185 kmph, which was accompanied by torrential rain. There has been widespread destruction of land and property and lives, as the cyclone wreaked havoc in Kolkata and other parts of the state.
