She is the fresh face to feature on India's second English language soap to go on air on Zee Café on 19 November. Priyanka Bassi deliberately waited for months to get a plum role on her platter until she bagged the role of the main lead in Bombay Talking. She is confident, cute and careful.. that's Priyanka for you. Kavita Shyam chats up the latest pretty young thing on TV. Tell us about your growing up years in Delhi? I was born and brought up in Delhi and we are a family of five which includes my parents, younger sister and brother who are still studying. I was a complete brat as a kid, tease everyone around and now I've grown into a matured young lady. I was good in studies but even better in co-curricular activities. Did you always want to get into acting? I learnt Kathak and joined Barry John's theatre group two years ago in Delhi. I got my portfolios done and got into print ads and also won many beauty contests in Delhi. I always wanted to make it big, and my parents have been really supportive throughout, especially my mother who pushed me to get into acting. I've been in Mumbai for the past nine months and have waited patiently for a challenging role like this to to come my way. How did Bombay Talking happen? I had auditioned for Bombay Talking and in no time, I was selected for the lead role. Now I devote 26 days in a month for the soap. What is your role like in Bombay Talking? I play Sheena Malik. She is an aspiring actress from a small town, she wants to make it big in tinsel town and it's her story through the other individuals. It's a meaty role and very much identifiable. Besides, I guess people are now looking forward to watching an English soap! What have you planned for the future ? Currently, I want to concentrate and give my best to Bombay Talking but my eyes are set on Bollywood too. The script and the characters offered to me have to be really good because I am very choosy and patient. I loved Rani Mukherjee in Black and Manisha Koirala in Khamoshi.
