MUMBAI: Legendary Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan passed away on July 3 after suffering a cardiac arrest. It was a huge loss for Bollywood, and members from the film fraternity as well as her fans took to their social media to express their grief. Amitabh Bachchan shared a lengthy note on social media recalling all the memories he shared with her, and several anecdotes. Starting from Amitabh Bachchan’s 1973 film Bandhe Haath, Big B remembered the time back when Saroj Khan was a dance assistant.

Sharing about one particular memory while filming a song for Bandhe Haath, Amitabh Bachchan wrote that at one point, Saroj Khan’s foetus had shifted in her stomach, but she simply pushed it in place and kept dancing. He wrote, “She was a sprightly young enthusiastic dance assistant to one of the major dance directors of the time .. of the time when I was just beginning .. of the film ‘Bandhe Haath’ with the heart throb of millions Mumtaz .. with the director OP Ralhan .. Mumtaz’s grace and acceptance to agree to work with this newbe .. she a stratospheric Star , me a nobody .... and Saroj ji in the crowd of dancers in a song .. her subtle grace when she moved .. at one point I saw her , quite alarmingly , finding the foetus had shifted in her stomach and she simply unabashedly pushed it into place , and carried on .. dancing ..”
He then also mentioned that she would often appreciate artists and give them a rupee coin as a pat on the back, or as ‘shagun’. Amitabh Bachchan also became the recipient of the coin once, during the song sequence of a film he was doing. He called it an immense achievement.
In another post, Amitabh Bachchan mentioned feeling remorse and grief after the death of Saroj Khan. He wrote, “And the show moves on... in remembrance of those that have left us during this time of the times."
