Kartik Sabharwal, this name that has been gaining popularity with the TV audience for his convincing rendition as a psychotic husband- Bhavishya in Zee's Ghar Ki Laxmi Betiyaan. He's done over 75 advertisements and serials like Tumhari Disha, Bhabhi and is also currently seen in Kumkum as Juhi's son-in-law. In conversation with Prashant Golecha, the actor who's name starts and end with a K, gets vocal about his current body of work, his desire to work in the 'K' shows and his hardcore faith in the power of number 9. How did you embark in the acting arena? While modeling, I realized I was fit for the entertainment industry. I auditioned for Stra Plus' Kyon Hota Hai Pyar and got selected. It was the only youth based campus show on TV at that point of time and that gave me recognition amongst the college-going crowd. It is a different kick when you make people smile and cry, making them relate to you, watch you, besides the recognition and perks which comes with the acting profession. Living with a name gives a high. How did you bag the role of Bhavishya in Ghar Ki Laxmi ….? This time I didn't have to give an audition. When I was given the narration, I loved the character and the title of the show. I love daughters, mothers and sisters, so I accepted the role. Any apprehensions before taking up the negative and psychotic character of Bhavishya? Initially it was a bit discerning. But the belief of the channel and the creative of the production house motivated me to prove my talent. It was a tough role to enact as he was not a regular baddie. So far, what kind of response you have generated? I have got very positive response for my portrayal. From a seven year old to 55- plus women, they all get surprised on spotting me and tell me that how much they love me. Everyone is appreciating the character. Do you relate to the character of Bhavishya? Not personally. I would treat my real wife as a queen, unlike Bhavishya. But the negative characteristics of my own personality, like my hyperactive nature, overflowing energy, restlessness and aggression have helped me in giving my very best to the role. How is the experience of working with BAG Films' Kumkum? What's your rapport with seasoned actors like Hussain and Juhi Parmar? It is a good experience to play Abhishek, a normal character backed by a riches-to-rags story. Hussain is a hard working and dedicated actor. He does motivate you to deliver the best. I don't have many scenes with Juhi. What are the landmarks in your career? Working with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan (for a commercial) and playing Bhavishaya in Ghar Ki Laxmi… have brought a turnaround in my career. Has Balaji ever approached you? I have got calls a couple of times, but nothing has materialized yet. I love Balaji as they definitely make stars out of their actors and take good care of them. Also the production values of their shows are very high. I surely want to work with Ekta Kapoor. What kind of roles are you looking forward to essay? Anything that's challenging. I have, till date, shot only for 200 days. I am not overexposed. There is a lot of scope in terms of acting. Are films on the agenda? I want to do good work irrespective of the medium. Do you think good looks are crucial for a TV actor? It's a definite necessity otherwise why would anybody watch you in the first place? Good looks does make one stand apart, but I wont sideline the fact that its the acting talent that takes you places. What are your future plans? I want to act, act, and act. My career is my top most priority. It is learnt you are a firm believer of numerology, particularly number 9. Comment. Yes. I am born on 27th Nov. which totals to nine. My birth time is 11.16 which totals to nine. My house number is 603, which is by chance as I didn't choose it. My car number totals to nine and so does my mobile number (it was planned this time too). I believe that the number nine is lucky for me and wherever possible I make it a point to go opt it. The power of nine has changed my life. The current year 2007 also adds up to nine. Describe the real Kartik Sabharwal? I am a very loving, emotional, an ideal son and would be an ideal husband too. But I do have few flaws - I am restless, hyperactive and can be moody at times.
