Kanwar Dhillon: The contract clauses are always in favour of the producers or the channel

MUMBAI: Kanwar Dhillon recently took to social media to talk about the hurdles he faced in getting work on television.

The actor told a media portal, “People might say that there is no nepotism in the TV world, but then, favouritism exists. There are a few lead faces, who keep getting roles in TV shows and later, they are cast in reality shows. So, If Bollywood has nepotism, there is unprofessionalism and favouritism in the TV world.”

He adds, “Many times, I have been signed by TV shows and suddenly got replaced without any reason. When I am part of a multi-starrer show, the treatment given to lead actors is quite different from that meted out to the supporting actor or the parallel lead. It has also happened that I have been called on sets, after being told that I have been selected for a particular role and have to sign the contract, only to be informed later they have changed their mind."

On contracts, he said, “The contract clauses are always in favour of the producers or the channel, and mostly, actors are not left with any choice. For example, an actor has to give a two-month notice period if he wants to quit a show, but he/she can be replaced overnight. Many times, I have tried to draw contracts that are mutually beneficial, but if you don’t agree to them, you end up losing the project. CINTAA and other associations should look into this and help us achieve more professionalism in the industry.”
