MUMBAI: Just like any other-themed competitive shows which air on the television, there are shows which showcase an individual's cooking skills and potentials which can help them achieve the designation of chefs or personnels parallel to a chef. Yes, we are talking about the cooking competitive shows that are aired on the Hindi TV channels.

These shows leave no stone unturned to test the limits, knowledge, skills and artwork of their participants and motivate people from all sects, backgrounds and age-groups to showcase their talents before the camera, focussing on WHY an individual deserves to be at the top position amongst their fellow participants.

Without any further ado, let's take a note of some of these talent-hunting cookery shows (which air on the Indian Television):

1. MasterChef India

This is a great and successful cookery competition show which brings out unnoticed talents from every corner of this country. This show is graced by hon'ble chefs who are super popular both nationally and globally like Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna, Kunal Kapoor, Ranveer Brar, Vineet Bhatia, etc., who play the active judges by judging the competitor's dish in terms of 'sochh' (creativity), 'soorat' (presentation) and 'swadh' (taste). Even Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar had both hosted and judged the 1st season of this show.

It premiered on 16th October 2010 on Star Plus and is through with 6 seasons so far.

2. Farah Ki Dawat

This is an Indian television cookery show which premiered on 22nd February 2015 and aired on Colors TV. The show is hosted by filmmaker Farah Khan, wherein eminent Bollywood celebs were invited and they tested their cooking skills therein.The show has featured guests like Kapil Sharma, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, Sajid Khan, Karan Johar, Manish Paul, Yuvraj Singh, Sania Mirza, Jacqueline Fernandez, Abhishek Bachchan, Gautam Gulati, Alia Bhatt, Boman Irani, Karan Tacker, Sargun Mehta and Malaika Arora Khan.

3. Food Food Maha Challenge - India's Super Chef

This show is another Indian competitive cooking game show which aired on Food Food TV channel. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor and actress Madhuri Dixit were the show's main judges. It premiered on 9 September 2011. 

4. Kitchen Champion

In this show, telly celebs don their chef hats to compete against each other and whip-up delicious dishes using the ingredients of the day, in order to impress a jury, which consists of children. This show aired on 25th February 2019 on Colors TV and was hosted by telly actor Arjun Bijlani. It has showcased 5 seasons so far.

5. Foodistan

For the first time, an out-of-the-box concept of hosting a cookery competition amid 2 nations (India and Pakistan) was executed by this show. Talents from both these nationalities had to compete against each other by the means of 'cooking'. This show was aired on NDTV Good Times and GEO TV, featuring 8 participants from each of the countries who showcased their culinary skill to win the cooking title. Veer Sanghvi, Sonia Jehan and Merrilees Parker judged the show on the basis of their contestant’s skills, presentation, taste and the essence of the ingredients used. The show was aired on 23 January 2012 - 21 March 2013 and was hosted by Alyy Khan (from Pakistan) and Ira Dubey (from India).

6. Junior MasterChef India Swaad Ke Ustaad

This competitive show aimed towards unleashing the cookery skills of talented kids (from the age group of 9 to 12 years old). This show aired on Star Plus as a spin-off to MasterChef India and chefs Vikas Khanna, Jolly and Kunal Kapoor judged the show. This show had just one season so far and aired on 17th August 2013.

7. IIHM Young Chef India Schools

This show was aired on NDTV Good Times to showcase the talent of aspiring chefs, who are currently the students of the Indian Institute of Hotel Management. The student participants had to face and overcome the provided tasks and obstacles by showcasing their own set of skills. The final season of the show was held in the London University, which helped the show to be recognized worldwide.
