MUMBAI: The entertainment business is a tough place to be in. When newcomers come in to make a career as an actor, sometimes, it becomes tough to fight the heavy competition that takes place here.
Many actors slip into depression owing to not be able to build a career, and some end up taking the extreme step of committing suicide.
As they say, the industry is not an easy place to be in, as one must be extremely strong to handle both success and failure.
Newcomers should have the support of their parents who can guide them and be their strength.
But unfortunately, there have been actors who have given up their life owing to depression as they couldn’t cope up with the pressure. There are a few others who have disappeared from the limelight owing to this mental illness.
Today, we bring you a few such names.

1. Kuljeet Randhawa

Popular supermodel and TV actress Kuljeet Randhawa committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling fan. Her suicide note stated that she could not cope with the pressures of life and therefore was ending her life. The actress was also suffering from depression post her break up.
2. Parveen Babi
The yesteryear sultry actress was found dead in her apartment in the year 2005. Parveen, who was struggling with diabetes, had apparently starved herself to death. She was also battling with depression. No one knew she had passed away, until two days later when the neighbours got a peculiar smell and called the police, who found her dead.
3) Marilyn Monroe
Iconic bombshell Marilyn Monroe died from a probable suicide by taking an overdose of barbiturates, with those close to her saying she was prone to severe fears and frequent depressions, as well as abrupt and unpredictable mood changes.
4) Jiah Khan
This British-born Indian actress was found hanging in her apartment in Juhu, Mumbai, on June 3, 2013. Police reports suggest that the actress was battling pressure from her then-boyfriend Suraj Pancholi, and it pushed her to take her own life.
A note recovered from Jiah's apartment after her death had said how she had to undergo an abortion during the course of her relation with Pancholi. There were also reports doing the rounds that she was suffering from severe depression.
5) Sai Prashanth

Tamil TV actor, well-known for his roles in the movies Neram and Vadacurry, was found dead at his residence in Chennai on 13th March 2016. Police claim that the reason behind Prashanth’s suicide could be loneliness and depression.
6) Nafisa Joseph
VJ and winner of the Miss India Universe 1997 title, Nafisa Joseph committed suicide post her break up with her fiancé, and she too was battling depression.
7) Uday Kiran
Filmfare Award-winning Telugu actor Uday Kiran committed suicide by hanging himself in his flat in Hyderabad. He was reportedly suffering from depression due to his financial problems.
8) Guru Dutt

Guru Dutt was a superstar in Bollywood in the 1950s and 1960s. There were reports that suggested that he had committed suicide by mixing medicines and drinks owing to depression.
9) Raj Kiran

Raj is a Bollywood actor mainly known for his role in the famous movie Karz. He went into acute depression after his career had taken a backseat. Later, he was admitted to Byculla Mental Asylum in Mumbai. He disappeared from the industry and was thought to be living as a recluse in America for many years.
A few years back his daughter had given a statement to the press that they were still looking out for the actor, and he has been missing for quite some time.
Well, these are a few names who went missing or passed away owing to depression.
