MUMBAI: Actress Neena Gupta is known for her iconic roles in the film industry. From Badhaai Ho to Panga, the actress has portrayed a series of powerful characters during her film journey.
Recently, Neena Gupta recounted an event in her book "Sach Kahun Toh - An Autobiography" in which she was pregnant when Gulzar offered her the role of Nawab Jaan in Mirza Ghalib.

Neena revealed that she was only a few months pregnant when Gulzar offered her the role, and she refused to lie to him. She recalls, “Neena said, “I was almost seven months pregnant by the time we wrapped up the shoot for ‘Mirza Ghalib’, a historical drama series that aired on DD (Doordarshan).”
According to Neena, Gulzar sahib had created the series, and had personally called her to play Nawab Jaan. She was just a few months pregnant when she got this offer. But she was in desperate need of cash. She realised that even if she was desperate, she had to tell the truth to Gulzar Sahib. She said , “So I told Gulzar Sahib the truth. I am pregnant and due in November but please let me do this role because I really need the money.”

Neena also mentioned that Gulzar Sahab is a jewel of a person and totally nonjudgmental. He not only cast her in the role, but he also looked after her during the shoot. She said, “He would even bring me food from his own house, so I would have something exciting to look forward to. I have mentioned before that I had friends who took special care of me during my pregnancy. I am so honoured to have had Gulzar Sahib among those friends.”
On the workfront, Neena Gupta was last seen in Sardar Ka Grandson, and Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar.
