Gajendra Singh is a big name in the reality show business having produced shows like Antakshari, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Star Voice of India.
Currently he is making his first fiction show Ghar Aaja Pardesi for Sahara One under the banner of Sai Baba Telefilms.
Tellychakkar.com tracks him down on the sets of the show to talk to the ebullient producer to know about Ghar Aaja Pardesi, his past and future projects and more….
Excerpts:
Your first fiction venture took a very long time to go on air?
True. All good things take time and so did Ghar Aaja Pardesi. Yes, I admit that the show took one and a half years to go on-air as it took us six months to get the right casting in order. However, Sahara One had liked the one liner of the story on the first day itself.
Tell us a bit about Ghar Aaja Pardesi?
I have been watching TV for a very long time now. And while watching TV, it once struck me that we do not have shows based on our culture and music and that is something that I am trying to bring through this project. We will have some very original tracks in the show.
It’s also a daughter’s journey of getting back her father (he is settled in the US and has a family there) to her land and be among his family here.
Your last singing reality show Sur Kshetra did not fare well on the TRP charts?
I feel getting a TRP of 1.5 in the 7:30 pm slot was pretty good, though I believe that it would have done much better had it not been shot a year ago. We could have had some marketing activity around it which would have helped us get the numbers.
Nevertheless, I got to learn a lot from the show. So, now when I work on the second season of Sur Kshetra, it will be bigger and better.
We had also heard that an involvement of a political party created issues for Sur Kshetra?
Yes, MNS had taken a stand against us ever after we had a press conference, though, later we explained things and they realised that we were not affecting the political scenario. That’s when we got a go ahead from them.
Sometime in October 2012, a non- bailable warrant was issued against you. Tell us about the case and has it settled for now?
It was a very unfortunate scene; a person from my company had dealt with the Dainik Jagran group for an event. And though in our accounts, the final monetary settlement was done, we were still liable to pay around six lakhs to them in their books of account. So they kept sending me notifications on the address of my previous office and since nobody was working there, I did not receive the letters. So, finally they issued a non-bailable warrant against me.
However, the case was dismissed the moment they learnt that my previous office was shut, hence I never received their letters. Secondly, they realised that though the bills were settled but it wasn’t denoted in their accounts. So, the case was wrapped up.
Tell us of your future plans?
There are a couple of ideas that I am working on. Firstly I’d like to explore Bollywood. I’ve already started working on a project. As of now, things are on paper, but it’s yet to go on the floors.Gajendra Singh is a big name in the reality show business having produced shows like Antakshari, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Star Voice of India.
