MUMBAI: Tellychakkar is back with yet another exclusive update from the digital world. Sanjay Leela Bhansali had announced his upcoming project with Netflix to be Heeramandi, on the occasion of completing 25 years in the industry.

The show is said to explore stories of courtesans and the hidden cultural reality of Heeramandi, Lahore during pre-independence India. The makers have touted the series to be about love, betrayal, succession and politics. The filmmaker currently awaits the release of Alia Bhatt-starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Now, according to a reliable source, we learned that Marathi Veteran actor Jaywant Wadkar will be playing a titular role in the series, further details about his character are yet to be disclosed.
The cast of 'Heera Mandi' will feature actors like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditi Rao Hydari. A few other senior actresses will also be making guest appearances in this web series. Earlier, Bhansali had planned to make ‘Heera Mandi’ as a feature film and had reportedly offered Priyanka Chopra the chance to play the main lead. Unfortunately, the actress turned down the offer citing date issues. Some of the other names that were reportedly being considered for the project were Madhuri Dixit, Rekha, Tabu and Shabana Azmi.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his directorial debut with Khamoshi: The Musical in 1996. The film featured Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, Nana Patekar and Helen in important roles and traced the story of a deaf and mute couple. Black, Guzaarish and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Padmaavat are some of his major films.
