MUMBAI : Upasana Singh played the character of "Bua" (paternal aunt) in the TV show Comedy Nights with Kapil, which got her widespread critical acclaim. She is popular for her onscreen style and funny dialogue delivery. She has done numerous Bollywood films as well as regional cinema such as Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, and Gujarati.
She has not been part of the comedy show for a long time now. While there were talks doing the rounds about Upasana having differences with Kapil, the actress dismissed the rumours.
Upasana says, "When I was playing Bua, it was fun working with Kapil. Later, he started his own show and moved to another channel. I could not move to another channel because I had signed a contract and had to continue working for the channel. There was no rift with Kapil but people thought I wasn't happy working with him."
The actress shares how she wants to work with Kapil but only if she gets a good character. She says, "I did a few episodes with Kapil but then I realised I wanted to do something creatively satisfying than just be a part of his show for a few minutes. Kapil and I are on good terms and we regularly communicate with each other. I am hoping that he will someday write a role for me because that will justify my talent and creatively satisfy me as an actor."
Upasana Singh was popularised as ‘Abba Dabba Jabba’ girl after she starred in Judaai. She has registered the phrase as a movie title and will soon start work on it.
The film Abba Dabba Jabba will star Johnny Lever and Upasana’s son Nanak. She said that their characters were a huge part of the film and she wishes to carry forward the legacy. She also said that the film will take time to shape, but will be made for sure.
