Exclusive! It is great that the industry is more accepting of new moms now: Shikha Singh

MUMBAI: Shikha Singh, who became popular for her role of Alia in Kumkum Bhagya, has taken a break from the entertainment industry after giving birth to a baby girl in June 2020.

Shikha played the role of Alia for six years before quitting the show. She has also been a part of shows like Mahabharat, Phulwa, Sasural Simar Ka, and Pavitra Rishta. She enjoys playing strong roles and has often played negative roles.

The actress had made a comeback with a bang by playing a cop in Colors’ Naagin 6. It was a cameo, and she has already wrapped up shooting for the same.

In a conversation with TellyChakkar, Shikha spoke about embracing motherhood, getting back into shape, and more.

Is there a change in the industry with regard to women getting back to work after embracing motherhood?

“Yes, and I'm really glad about the change. After becoming a mom, you have to be ready to go back to work. And the industry is more accepting of new moms now. It is great. It's very motivating to see other moms working after delivering a child.”

How do you manage motherhood and work?

“I have a caretaker for my baby. Since my husband is a pilot, even he doesn't get much time. But we both manage together with the help of our caretaker. I'm mostly around to take care of my baby. Moreover, my baby is very patient.”

Did you struggle to get back in shape?

“Yes, I had put on 20 kgs during pregnancy. I could not even access the gym due to the pandemic, but I kept eating right and working out at home.”

Any tips for new moms out there?

“As a mother, you can't stop thinking about your child. You have to be mentally prepared to get back to work. Some mothers don't have the facility to keep help. Moreover, kids are happy on their own, but as a parent, it's difficult to let go. But letting go is important, or the child won't become independent.”

Well said, Shikha.

Stay tuned for more news from the entertainment industry.
