In an exclusive conversation with Shiva aka Kanwar Dhillon, he shared his experience on portraying Shiva, characters that interest him and more. You wouldn't want to miss out on his intriguing responses:-

Tell us your experience on portraying Shiva

What really interested me about Shiva, was the very fact that he is someone like coconut, he is all hard outside but has a soft heart inside which he doesn't want to show and there are a lot of things that unveil with his character. That is the transition what even viewers experienced with Shiva and even Raavi. The whole transition of Shiva letting Raavi into his space and opening up to her completely is what Shiva is. I also prefer to do different roles and characters as it has a different edge to give to the character. All my shows have been different from one another and that is one of the reasons why I take short breaks between my projects. At the end of the day, I need to be motivated to get up and go to work. I don't want to be one of those who is just working for the sake of it. I would rather wait and take up something that excites me. Shiva helped me on a personal level too; it helps me grow as I add my touch to the character. Shiva is exactly how I am in reality, leaving the anger. I completely relate to it.

What kind of characters would you like to explore?

After Pandya if I would like to do something, I would love to explore the OTT, that doesn't mean I would move away from TV. Something that is crime based or action. A genre that I would like to play with as I feel TV has a certain limitations in terms of Genre, if there is a change people, don't accept that. That is a drawback and I think, that's the reason somewhere the content on TV gets monotonous. Exploring different mediums has become a reality and it is easy to balance multiple projects but if you are doing a daily soap you don't have much time to do something new. I do have things coming my way but it gets difficult to work simultaneously, as you have to maintain a certain look for the show, shooting everyday. So post Pandya, I would really love to explore.

Do you think it is right time to bring finite shows?

Ofcourse, I think that is the longer perspective to television. That will happen sooner or later, for a show that is running for a year that is over 300 episodes, you have to stretch a 4 page story for the year to keep the audience intact and then TRPs come in, due to which the original writing loses its essence. After a point, some shows lose their flavour.

Thankfully in Pandya Store, there are different tracks as we have so many characters, but at the end of the day, we come back to the whole family and taking care of each other. That is what people like as well as this happens in real life too, when you are living in such a big family, all of them have a story. The show is not only about Shiva and Raavi all the time, there was a love track, but end of the day it's an ensemble, so the tracks keep changing and every character comes to light. There are so many relatable things that happen.

That's not the case with every show, at times things get too stretched up and modified; at the end they lose the flavour. Even though with finite shows, there have been good and bad shows, I believe good content works, be it daily soaps or finite shows.
