MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut stepped into films with a spectacular debut in Anurag Basu’s Gangster and never looked back after that. She has only climbed up the ladder of success and achieved a lot on her own terms with films like Queen, Manikarnika, Tanu Weds Manu, etc. Despite coming from a middle class, non-filmy background, Kangana’s success has baffled many and has been under speculation.
Kangana remembers how certain sections of the media were unable to digest how she had reached the top without any godfather or movie connection. They went so far to label her a witch. She once said, “In 2016 one of the leading print editors @saritatanwar2707 wrote a piece in her paper that her investigative journo skills have landed her proofs of my black magic skills and she is more than sure that I mix my period blood in ladoos (sweets) that I send on Diwali to everyone as gifts …Ha ha those days were fun, no one could figure with no filmi background, education, guidance, agency, groups or friends/boyfriends I made it to the top... so they all collectively came up with one answer BLACK MAGIC !!”
When speaking of her ex boyfriend Adhyayan Suman who once said that she had given him her period blood to drink, she responded saying, “It doesn't upset me when people call me names and talk about my period blood - but just don't call it gross. Because there is nothing gross about period blood. When we think about periods, it's my ability to reproduce, it's my ability to give birth. If there's nothing gross about a man's body fluids, then there is nothing mysterious or evil about women's body fluids either.”
On the work front, Kangana ws last seen in Dhaakad. She will next be seen essaying the role of an Air Force Pilot in Tejas and later in her solo directorial Emergency, where she will be seen playing the role of Indira Gandhi in the film.
