In a jolt to the film industry, National award winning filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh passed away due to a massive heart attack this morning in Kolkata. He was 49.
Born on 31 August 31, 1963 in Kolkata, the noted director’s parents were related to films, his father Sunil Ghosh being a documentary filmmaker.
Rituparno started his career in advertising while his directional debut was Hirer Angti. He came to prominence with his 1994 film Unishe April. In his illustrious career, he made prominent films like Chokher Bali, Raincoat, Antarmahal, Dosar, The Last Lear, Khela and Shob Choritro Kalponik among many others.
The noted director won the National film award for the first time as the best director for his Bengali film Abohoman. Later, he won multiple National Awards and several acclaimed international awards too.
Rituparno was good in acting too. He made his first screen presence in the Oriya film Katha Deithilli Ma Ku and later appeared in films like Chitrangada, Memories in March and Just Another Love Story.
Not just that, he hosted two celebrity chat shows namely Ebong Rituporno on ETV Bangla and Ghosh and co. on Star Jalsha.
A multitalented person, Rituparno also scripted Gaaner Opare.
